spots by destroying the San Francisco 49ers 43-16 Dion Jordan Color Rush Jersey , and had a lot of fun doing so. The wide receivers continued to have great touchdown celebrations, Chris Carson continued to break tackles carrying the ball and Bobby Wagner had another amazing game. And, as every week, Twitter reacted. So, without beating around the bush, let’s get to some reactions. And apparently Richard Sherman wasn’t the only former Seahawk who didn’t have an enjoyable day at the CLink. This may be the only list where these two teams are even close. And then there were the wide receivers doing their touchdown celebrations, which speak for themselves. How important are these touchdown celebrations to the Seahawks? Well, as former Field Gulls author Samuel Gold noted Sunday afternoon, the Hawks are professionals, and professionals practice their skills. Which is exactly what cameras caught David Moore doing during the game. But the wide receivers weren’t the only ones getting into the end zone. Linebacker Bobby Wagner had the longest touchdown of the day in the fourth quarter. Sunday was just another example of how amazing Bobby Wagner is, as he led all defensive players with 12 tackles, recorded his first sack of the season Tedric Thompson Color Rush Jersey , had a forced fumble (that he recovered) and the interception return for a touchdown. And he batted two passes. He’s really, really good. But,somehow he’s not leading the league in Pro Bowl votes for inside linebacker. He’s not even in first place in the conference. During the offseason many fans were worried about where the touchdown production would come from with both Paul Richardson and Jimmy Graham leaving. Well, that’s not a question the team faces anymore. Lockett wasn’t the only one padding stats against the 49ers, as Chris Carson continues to work closer and closer to becoming the first 1,000 yard rusher for the Seahawks since Marshawn in 2013 (though this highlight is a pass reception on which we get to watch him truck a 49er at high speed in the open field). Carson now has704 rushing yards on the season, so needs 296 over the final four weeks of the season to reach a thousand. As noted, with the victory, the Seahawks accomplished two things. First, the 49ers are now the first NFC that is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. With a 2-10 record and four games to go they now max out at 6 wins, while the final Wild Card spot is currently occupied by the 6.5 win Minnesota Vikings who come to town next weekend. That could change if the Washington Redskins win Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles. But before I close this out, let’s go ahead and get some more reactions from the 49ers side. How bad are the 49ers? Well Ethan Pocic Color Rush Jersey , even fans of the 4-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bashing the Niners. Even fans of the Green Bay Packers, who have a shiny new interim coach, are piling on. However, regardless of how the Monday game turns out, the Seahawks are guaranteed to enter Week 14 in one of the two NFC Wild Card spots. Earl Thomas‘ issues with the Seattle Seahawks front office aren’t going away, even as he continues to play like one of the best safeties in the NFL.How much longer the Seahawks are willing to put up with an unhappy star is now the big question. After a few days of uncertainty, Thomas was on the field Sunday creating problems for opponents in Seattle’s 24-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys. In what he acknowledged could end up being his last game in Seattle, Thomas had two interceptions and tied for a team high with seven tackles.“I don’t know if it was,” Thomas said, “but I had a damn good time and I’ll go out like that if I have to.”His displeasure with his situation in Seattle remains evident. Thomas’ holdout from Seattle’s offseason program and training camp didn’t result in a contract extension or a trade. He’s now banking that skipping two days of practice this past week 鈥?and then playing great Sunday 鈥?may finally force Seattle’s hand to make some sort of move, either offering him a long-term contract extension or sending him to another team that might be willing to secure his future beyond this season.“I love Seattle,” Thomas said. “My family is here. I’m hopeful these guys will call my agent and we’ll work something out. I want to be taken care of.”Since he reported on the Wednesday before the season opener Shaquill Griffin Color Rush Jersey , Thomas had not taken any overt actions to express his displeasure with his contract situation, a deal with Seattle that expires after this season. That changed this week when he sat out practices Wednesday and Friday without any injury designation. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Thomas missed the practices for personal reasons and was not injury related.Thomas said Sunday he sat out because he’s “invested in myself.”“If they were invested in me, I’d be out there practicing, but if I feel like anything 鈥?I don’t give a damn if it’s small, I got a headache 鈥?I’m not practicing,” Thomas said.Carroll offered no explanations for the situation.“Really, I haven’t even talked to him about it other than we made it through and we talk next week,” Carroll said. “There’s nothing even to really tell you about it. I’ll let you know next week.”Thomas said he understood that decision would likely come with some financial repercussions 鈥?from the Seahawks.“They definitely gonna tax me,” Thomas said. “I’m sure I’ll have a slip in my locker.”Thomas’ absence from practice 鈥?or the lingering uncertainty about his future 鈥?didn’t seem to bother his teammates.“He keeps playing like greatness, he’s playing like he deserves one of those yellow jackets,” defensive end Frank Clark said. “At the end of the day, that’s Earl. Earl is going to do Earl. I think we all know that. Everybody is panicking and wondering where Earl is at Delano Hill Color Rush Jersey , but I’m sure he’s getting better somewhere in his little cave or something.”Thomas’ first interception came in the first quarter after he pinned a deflected pass against his shin and kept it from hitting the turf. His second pick also came off a deflection and stopped a drive by Dallas deep in Seattle territory in the fourth quarter. After the second interception, Thomas turned to Dallas’ sideline and bowed.Thomas has never hid his desire to one day play for the Cowboys and last year after the Seahawks won in Dallas, Thomas made the odd move of running into the Cowboys’ locker room to give a message to coach Jason Garrett: “If they kick me to the curb, come get me.”It was the second time in his career Thomas had two interceptions in a game, and the bow was a bit of a shot at Dallas for not getting a deal done.“I felt like that was just in the moment and if they were going to trade for me and extend me, they should have did it,” Thomas said of his gesture that drew a 15-yard penalty.
Now that college football’s regular season is over Tramon Williams Color Rush Jersey , the NFL is able to play a few games on Saturdays. Week 15 sees a pair of pro games taking place on Saturday, as the Houston Texans appear to be in solid command of the AFC South. They are traveling to the East Coast this week, however, taking on the 4-9 Jets in the Meadowlands in today’s early game. Then in the evening we have the Browns and Broncos, two teams sitting below .500. The Browns still have something to play for, however; because of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent collapses, there is still a pathway for Cleveland to win the division by winning out and finishing 8-7-1. The Browns have not beaten Denver in any of their past 11 tries https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Marcedes-Lewis-Jersey , but perhaps there’s something different about this team now that Hue Jackson is gone.Tune in throughout the afternoon and evening and join us in the comments as we follow along with today’s games.Houston Texans vs. New York Jets4:30 PM Eastern TimeMetLife StadiumEast Rutherford, NJNFL NetworkCommentators: Curt Menefee, Nate Burleson, Steve Mariucci, Melissa StarkCleveland Browns at Denver Broncos6:20 PM Mountain Time (8:20 PM ET)Broncos Stadium at Mile HighDenver, CONFL NetworkCommentators: Mike Tirico, Kurt Warner, Peter Schrager While Jake Kumerow appears set to make his 2018 regular-season debut following his activation off injured reserve https://www.thepackersfanshop.com , his return requires the Green Bay Packers to create a roster spot on their 53-man roster. They did so by placed standout defensive lineman Mike Daniels on injured reserve on Saturday, ending his season. Daniels hasn’t played since injuring his foot during the fourth quarter of a Week 11 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. The team had already ruled out the veteran defensive lineman for this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals when it announced his move to IR.Though Daniels remained an effective interior defender in 2018, his pass rush production waned from previous seasons. The scheme change initiated by new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, along with the emergence of fellow defensive lineman Kenny Clark, account for some of that change, but Daniels did not beat double-team blocks and hurry throws as frequently as in the past. He finishes the year with just two sacks and five quarterback hits.In addition to Daniels, the Packers placed injured returner Trevor Davis on IR and promoted fullback Danny Vitale to the active roster.

quarter against the playoff hopeful Miami Dolphins to secure their 5th straight victory. What’s even more impressive about the victory is that they did all that without their starting center Ryan Kelly. Kelly has been playing like an All-Pro this season and is a big reason why the Colts were stringing together so many victories. With Kelly at starting center Matt Slauson Color Rush Jersey , the Colts had a streak of four straight games without allowing a sack.Starting in place of Kelly was former fourth round pick Evan Boehm. Boehm started eight games for Arizona last year at right guard before being cut and signed to the Cardinals just before this season. Once the Colts lost guard Matt Slauson for the season, they poached Boehm off of the Cardinals practice squad for added depth. Although he hasn’t started a game at center in the NFL before this past Sunday, he did make 52 career starts at the position in college for Missouri.Boehm was very up and down in his first career start at center this past Sunday. The Dolphins rarely tested him in one-on-one and that definitely made his job easier. With Joe Haeg returning to practice this week, some are calling for him to replace Boehm at center against the Jaguars. I will show you all through this film room that Boehm did play well enough to earn another start and that he continually got better as the game progressed on Sunday. Let’s jump into the film though to see what I’m talking about. Film ReviewA common staple of the Colts’ offensive line dominance in past weeks is their ability on pulls. Kelly was borderline elite in this area as his athleticism and ability to locate defenders were pretty great. Boehm is not quite the athlete Kelly is and he does struggle with locating his targets when pulling. Here, Boehm is able to get out in front of the run but is a bit hesitant about who to block when he gets out there. He ends up blocking nobody on this play as a result which is not ideal. This next rep by Boehm is a really good one, as he is operating from a position of strength here. Boehm is a very short, stocky lineman and excels more in tight quarters rather than onthe move or in space. He is down blocking here, away from the play. He does a great job of getting low on his block and driving defensive lineman Ziggy Hood out of the play. He also directs his block of Hood towards edge rusher Charles Harris, which takes him out of the play as well. Overall a great block by Boehm to take two defenders out of the play. If Marlon Mack had better vision and saw the cutback lane that Boehm created, this play could have gone for more yards. This next rep shows a few of the flaws I saw in Boehm when run blocking in the first half. The first one that I mentioned earlier is finding his targets and taking proper angles in run blocking. Here he runs past his man and is not able to even get a hand on linebacker Kiko Alonso. I also noticed that Boehm is fairly stiff in the open field, especially when he is attempting to get to the second level against linebackers in the run game. He does a good job of getting to the next level but where he needs to improve now is locating his targets, taking better angles, and engaging in blocks with linebackers, Too often he whiffs in the open field like this. Earlier I showed a clip of Boehm pulling and failing to diagnose which player he needs to block on the play. Here, Boehm actually does a great job of getting through the line and finding his linebacker that he needs to block. He proceeds to sell out on the block and dives at the linebackers legs to get a body on him. This is actually a pretty solid block that likely would have sprung Mack for a big gain if Anthony Castonzo was able to hold his block on the outside. Definitely a much better rep from Boehm on this inside pull with a much shorter distance to cover and his target more easy to diagnose. This next rep is actually quite comical, as it is a reminder that Boehm is still new to this team and trying to learn the offense. Playing center in the NFL is one of the hardest things to do in all of football. On top of being asked to block 330 pound nose guards right after you snap the ball, centers also need to be the captain of the offensive line along with understanding all the protection calls and run designs. That is a lot to take in for a guy who has been on the team only for a few weeks. Here he clearly has a miscommunication with Quenton Nelson or simply blocked the wrong way. It is funny to see him spin around like this at the line but these type of mistakes will happen with a player still relatively new to the team. This next clip again shows Boehm climbing to the second level and whiffing once he gets to the linebacker. Alonso is much quicker than Boehm— obviously as Alonso is a linebacker— and is able to make Boehm whiff on his block en route to making a tackle. In the future, I’d like to see Boehm get his hands inside on the linebacker once he initially engages the block so that he has complete control of the rep and where the linebacker moves. Watch how Braden Smith blocks the opposite linebacker on this rep. He gets his hands inside and is able to keep hold of him until the end of the play. I want to see more of that from Boehm going forward. Another rep from Boehm where he misses Alonso in space. This may be the worst rep of all because he actually does establish good position initially in front of Alonso. The main problem here is that Boehm just doesn’t get his hands up and on Alonso before he makes his move inside. Boehm has to get his hands up and on quicker linebackers or they are simply going to go around him to make plays. He has the strength advantage over players such as Alonso, he needs to use it. Use your hands, control the block, and open up the run lane. Now I have been a bit hard on Boehm so far in this piece. So let me show a clip on something I absolutely love about him. He was really solid in pass pro on Sunday https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Anthony-Walker-Jersey , particularly in finding work. The Dolphins run a 4-3 defense so rarely is there a player lined up over the center on pass blocking attempts. As a result, Boehm is tasked with having to find work on unsuspecting lineman already engaged with guards. On this rep, Boehm lays out the defensive lineman engaged with Mark Glowinski after scanning for any late rushers. I love this bully mentality to find work and put defenders on the ground. Now every clip I have shown so far was Boehm in the first half. The rest of the clips are in the second half of the game on Sunday and you’ll notice a player getting better as the game went on. I mentioned earlier that Boehm impressed me a lot in pass blocking on Sunday. One area where I was really impressed though was in his handling and diagnosing of stunts up front. This is something that Nelson, Kelly, and quite frankly most guards really struggle with in their first few starts in the NFL. Boehm however handles these like a veteran as he is very patient and does not get pulled out of position when handling stunts. He is able to shut down the stunt from Cameron Wake with ease on this play. The Dolphins really didn’t test Boehm much with one on one reps, which shocked me quite a bit. Here is one of those rare plays where Boehm was tasked with blocking a defensive tackle one on one on a blitz. The defensive lineman— Ziggy Hood— attempts to get up field on Boehm and actually does get a good jump off of the snap. Boehm does a great job of executing the “snatch and trap” technique of blocking to get Hood onto the ground. He notices that Hood’s leverage is pulling him forward and Hood is off balance. Boehm then pulls Hood’s arms down, leading to him falling forward and giving Andrew Luck and open throwing lane. Excellent blocking by Boehm here. This next rep by Boehm is probably his best block of the entire afternoon. Again operating more in the “phone booth” rather than in open space, Boehm is able to execute two key blocks on one play to spring Mack for a huge gain. Boehm first chips defensive lineman Akeem Spence to help Glowinski secure that block. Then, he is able to work to the second level and secure a block on linebacker Raekwon McMillan. By blocking McMillan out of the gap, Boehm also gets in the way of the backside linebacker— Alonso— and throws off his angle. To top off the whole thing, he buries McMillan in the ground to finish the play. Overall he takes out three defenders here and sparks a huge play for the offense. Excellent rep here by Boehm.I mentioned earlier how I love how quickly Boehm is able to diagnose and react to stunts. Here we see that ability again on full display. He initially carries the defensive lineman Spence inside before handing him off to Castonzo. He then— rather athletically— works back inside to pick up the inside stunt from Robert Quinn. This quick diagnoses of the stunt play likely saves a sack and I am thoroughly impressed by the awareness he displayed on plays like this all Sunday long. This last rep may not be his best of the day, but it is my personal favorite. He starts off the play double teaming inside with Glowinski on Spence. After he helps Glowinski control that block he then finds work on Nelson’s side and absolutely crushes defensive lineman Sylvester Williams. My favorite part of the clip— which actually made me chuckle quite a bit— is that it appears that Boehm is thinking about hitting Williams then ultimately decides to once he sees Williams open up his body by jumping up to defend the pass. I love lineman who find work and he definitely excels at bullying defensive lineman around.AnalysisThe Colts’ five game sackless streak came to an end this past Sunday, but that was not because of Evan Boehm. He excelled in pass blocking and showed no sign of a drop off in replacing the injured Ryan Kelly. Where he really did struggle though was reaching and maintaining blocks in the second level. He struggled with the lateral ability of linebackers in space and needs to really improve getting his hands on them so he can control the block.Overall I’d say it was a solid showing from the young center. He displayed an impressive mean streak in finishing blocks and finding work and showed some exellent awareness in pass blocking. He may be more limited than Kelly but he should be quite serviceable until Kelly is able to return. In short though, Boehm should absolutely be the starter until Kelly is able to return from his knee injury. The relationship between the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans is odd. The Titans have been in the AFC South since the beginning but these games have a way of getting overlooked. The Colts play six division games every season and somehow it feels like there is more “bad blood” with the Jaguars and Texans. Even Colts fans who were polled on Indy’s greatest rivalry couldn’t muster a vote for the series with Tennessee.Even more intriguing? The Indianapolis Colts have dominated the AFC South for years but the Texans and Jaguars have fanbases who consider the Titans, with only two division titles in 16 years, as their top rival. Go figure. This year, none of those observations matter. The race for a possible wild card spot in the AFC is wide open. The Houston Texans? Arguably the weakest division leader in the NFL and clearly worse than their record indicates. They have been on the winning side of 50/50 situations late in games far more often in 2018 than any other team — including a gifted victory in Indianapolis in overtime.Say or think what you want about the Titans, they just shocked the NFL world by putting it to the Patriots. Their defense has been showing signs of dominance. The offense is still an unfettered mess led by a quarterback who has been both inconsistently good and inconsistently healthy. But Tennessee’s rookie head coach Mike Vrabel may well have the games against the Colts circled on the calendar. You can bet that he doesn’t care for a handful of memories from his playing career against Indianapolis, including a string of losses he took at the hands of Peyton Manning. Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler haven’t forgotten about Deflategate either.Home division games are must-win games every season but never more than this game is for the Colts playing for a chance to get to .500 on the year. A loss here all but eliminates any hope at winning the AFC South. A loss here makes it far more difficult to make a late run for an AFC wild card berth. A win will push their streak to 4 games and give them momentum heading into a match-up with an underwhelming Dolphins team at home. Here are the keys to a positive outcome.CATCH THE DAMN BALLThe arrival of Dontrelle Inman and return of T.Y. Hilton seemed to turn the tide for Colts pass-catchers. Numerous drops early in the season had a profound impact on a slow start. After a couple of games where it appeared the antibiotics had finally started to work, rookie running back Nyheim Hines dropped a wide open pass in space and tight end Mo Alie-Cox allowed a ball to hit him in the chest for an easy interception, off of the deflection. Those two plays were nearly all it took to allow the Jaguars to mount a successful second half comeback. This cannot happen again. The Titans defense will do all they can to make life difficult for the Colts as it is... so Indy must not fall victim to self-inflicted wounds.RE-ESTABLISH BALANCELast week https://www.coltsfanshop.com , Jacksonville was able to bottle up much of the Colts ground game. After back-to-back 200+ yard performances, Indy looked pedestrian again. The offensive line wasn’t able to get a lot of traction in the trenches, failing to keep Marlon Mack clean on a key 3rd-and-1 in the second half. This week, life will not get considerably easier in the trenches. DaQuan Jones, Austin Johnson, Jurrell Casey, and Bennie Logan represent a rotation of beefy defensive linemen that will certainly challenge a young offensive line that has started to come into its own. Perhaps speed around the edges and misdirection will be the flavor for the day. No matter what it takes, Reich needs to be able to re-establish offensive balance. As Colts fans saw a week ago, pass game brilliance can go away in a hurry with just a couple of mistakes. The ground game can make life much easier.CONTAIN MARIOTAThe Titans offense is not loaded with weapons. Their most consistent weapon, Delanie Walker is on injured reserve. Their running game has struggled to find consistency, with Derrick Henry underwhelming and Dion Lewis playing a hybrid role. The Colts have the speed at the second level to make life difficult for Lewis. They have been pretty stout on the inside. What the Colts haven’t had to face so far this year is an elite running threat at quarterback. While Mariota is as inconsistent on the ground as he is in any other facet of his game, he has the ability to single-handily blow a game open if he is not contained. Someone needs to have their eyes on him every snap and force him to throw into tight windows to move the ball.FIND SOMEONE TO COVER DEEPMalik Hooker will not suit up against the Titans. The last time he was unable to play, Derek Carr looked like a Hall of Fame talent for much of the game. It was glaringly obvious that Jon Gruden intended to exploit the defense deep with Jared Cook and consistently force Hooker’s replacements to make difficult decisions. There is no other player on Indy’s roster with the elite athleticism Hooker possesses to patrol a deep half of the field. Someone will have to step up to punish attempts deep or a bad offense will look explosive in a hurry. Second-year wide receiver Corey Davis could have a career day if the Colts secondary isn’t careful.PASS RUSH NEEDS TO TURN UP THE HEATIndianapolis started the season generating pressure consistently without blitzing. This played a key role in seeing the defense unexpectedly carry the team despite offensive mistakes. That seems like such a long time ago. Now? Athletes like Kemoko Turay, Tyquan Lewis, Jabaal Shard, and occasionally Darius Leonard can get some pressure but Margus Hunt has disappeared after a fast start, Denico Autry has been unable to regularly generate pressure on the interior, and the pass rush has failed to land with any regularity. The only thing better than asking Marcus Mariota to win the game with his arm and taking away in the impact of his feet, is asking him to do so with pressure in his face. If the defense can force Mariota into rushed decisions, the secondary can generate turnovers. Tennessee already struggles to put points on the board. It cannot afford to give up the ball. The pass rush will play a big role in this aspect of the game.
BEREA Jabrill Peppers Color Rush Jersey , Ohio (AP) —sideline. On Wednesday, two defensive starters were added to the stack.Cleveland placed linebacker Christian Kirksey and cornerback E.J. Gaines on injured reserve, ending their seasons with seven games remaining and putting further strain on a unit lacking quality depth and experience.“Those two guys, they really set a precedent for what we wanted to do as a team, as a defense,” said cornerback T.J. Carrie. “And, of course, they’ll still be here sparingly in and out throughout the week, but it’s a lot different when they were on the field fighting with you, blood, sweat and tears with you, through the trenches.“We’re going to definitely miss that. Those are two players that we can’t replace.”One of the team’s captains, Kirksey injured his left hamstring in the second quarter Sunday as the Browns (2-6-1) lost their fourth straight game, 37-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.Gaines sustained his second concussion in three weeks when he took a knee to the helmet while trying to make a tackle in the first quarter. The loss of Kirksey is especially damaging because he’s one of the team’s leaders. The fifth-year pro has played on the weak side and in the middle this season, making 43 tackles and two interceptions.“Kirko is kind of the heart and soul of the defense, heart and soul of the team in the locker room, on the field, just how he goes about his business,” said linebacker Joe Schobert, a 2017 Pro Bowler who returned to practice after missing three games with a hamstring injury. “It’s the next-man-up mentality, but there’s things that you’re going to miss.”Schobert’s return will help ease the loss of Kirksey, and the Browns are expected to have defensive back Damarious Randall for Sunday’s game against Atlanta after he missed last week’s game with a groin injury.Linebacker Jamie Collins (ankle) and rookie cornerback Denzel Ward (hip) were limited in practice, but interim coach Gregg Williams expects both back on the field Thursday.Randall E.J. Gaines Color Rush Jersey , who has played cornerback and free safety, felt he was healthy enough to play last week, but Williams kept him out so he would have the versatile defensive back for multiple games. Randall’s absence became magnified when Ward and Gaines went down on the Chiefs’ opening drive, forcing Williams to adjust his game plan against the NFL’s most electrifying offense and play seldom-used reserves Denzel Rice and Tavierre Thomas.“It’s very hard,” Carrie said of losing two key players. “It changes the game plan. It changes a lot of things because you can only give practice reps to so many guys, and so you get guys that come in and they’re athletes, but it’s hard when you don’t know the schematics of the little details that we put in for that game.”And, as luck would have it, the banged-up Browns will have to deal with a talented Atlanta team that has overcome its own injury issues and reeled off three straight wins.Needing seasoned secondary help, the Browns claimed Phillip Gaines off waivers from Buffalo and Jermaine Whitehead from Green Bay. To make roster room, Rice was waived.Gaines spent four years with Kansas City before signing with Buffalo. Whitehead played in 19 games with the Packers from 2016-18.Schobert’s return is vital to Cleveland’s defense as he’s the one responsible for calling out Williams’ pre-snap schemes and getting his teammates organized — an on-field coach. After missing three weeks, getting back on the field will be a welcomed change for Schobert, who had played every defensive snap since the start of the 2017 season until he got hurt on Oct. 21 at Tampa Bay.“It is just different. It is weird,” Schobert said of being inactive. “Especially with a hamstring. You just walk around on the sideline feeling good and watching people on the field thinking you can be out there — wishing you could be out there. You just have to kind of suck it up and take it into your own role however you can help a team in that aspect.“That is what I was doing. Just kind of jumped right into more of a coaching aspect, trying to keep myself involved that way. I think it helped.”NOTES: Rookie LT Desmond Harrison was limited in practice after missing last week’s game with an undisclosed illness. Greg Robinson stepped in and played well in his first start for Cleveland. Williams hasn’t decided who he’ll play against the Falcons. “What we will do is every day is an interview and both of them are taking reps,” he said. “By the end of the week, we will make what is best and it is good — the fact that you have depth. Guys can compete and get ready to roll.” … The Browns signed DB Juston Burris to the active roster off the Jets‘ practice squad. A fourth-round pick in 2016, he appeared in 34 games for New York. BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns owner Jimmy Haslam finally tried the patient approach with his head coach. That didn’t work either.Haslam made his fourth coaching change since 2012 by firing Hue Jackson, who won just three of 40 games over two-plus seasons and then lost his job because of a feud with offensive coordinator Todd Haley that went public and threatened to turn a promising season into another one of those Cleveland catastrophes.Haslam fired Jackson and Haley within hours of each other on Monday, a day after the Browns (2-5-1) lost their 25th consecutive road game — one shy of the NFL record.“Hopefully, we made a big step today,” Haslam said. “It is hard to win in the NFL. If anybody knows that, it is us. I think the message today is we are not going to put up with internal discord. We want people who are collaborative and work together.”As for his poor track record in finding coaches https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Damarious-Randall-Jersey , Haslam offered no excuses.“I will accept the blame because ultimately, it is the person at the head of the ship,” he said. “I will take the blame as ownership. I can’t explain it more than that. We have had different situations with different people. I know that it is something that we are not going to tolerate moving forward.”Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is Cleveland’s interim coach, and running backs coach Freddie Kitchens will take over for Haley.Haslam said Williams, who coached Buffalo from 2001-03, was the only in-house candidate considered to finish the season. While Williams has extensive experience and won a Super Bowl, he also has a checkered past. He was suspended by the league for a full season in 2012 for his role in the “Bountygate” scandal that rocked the New Orleans Saints.Haslam said it’s premature to consider the next coaching hire for the Browns, who are 22-81-1 since he and his wife, Dee, agreed to buy the franchise in 2012.The main objective now is to get through the season’s second half, beginning with a matchup on Sunday against the high-scoring, Kansas City Chiefs (7-1).“We will have a collaborative effort in everything that we do here,” Haslam said when asked about a search for the team’s ninth coach since 1999. “Right now, we are focused on the next eight games and Gregg and his staff winning as many of those games that we can.”There are already names floating around as potential candidates to be Cleveland’s next coach, including Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley, who coached Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield in college.“Not right now,” Riley said of his interest in jumping to the NFL. “You sit here and answer these questions and I always want to be truthful. The truth is for me is, I love Oklahoma. I love coaching here. I love college football. I certainly don’t have that itch right now.”Just three weeks ago, the Browns, who went 0-16 last season under Jackson, appeared to have turned the corner following an overtime win against Baltimore. But things unraveled quickly, thrust in the wrong direction by a power struggle between Jackson and Haley, who joined Cleveland’s staff this season after six in Pittsburgh. Following a loss at Tampa Bay last week, Jackson aimed blame at Haley by offering to help the team’s offense.Haley publicly said he wasn’t offended by the remarks. But Jackson’s comments seemed to widen a divide between the coaches Darren Fells Jersey , who had disagreed on players getting days off during training camp and whether wide receiver Josh Gordon deserved to start the opener. In order to salvage the season, Haslam and general manager John Dorsey felt change was necessary.Without pointing fingers, Dorsey said there’s only one way to stop the in-fighting.“Treat people the way they want to be treated,” he said. “Come into work every day willing to work. Love what you do. Just take ownership in what you are doing. Come to work every day and treat people the way you want to be treated.”Jackson’s the sixth straight Cleveland coach to be fired following the team’s second game against Pittsburgh. Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini, Pat Shurmur, Rob Chudzinski and Mike Pettine all met the same demise, but they were let go following the season’s final game.Haslam wouldn’t get into any specifics about the “‘discord” between Jackson and Haley.“We made the decision to move on, and it was far bigger than who was going to call plays,” Haslam said. “Unfortunately, sometimes, the best plans don’t work out, and in this case, they didn’t. We were optimistic and hopeful that they would.”Jackson was hired in 2016 by the Haslams, who stuck by him despite a 1-15 record in his first season and then last season’s debacle. His failures were always explained away with excuses: not enough talent, injuries, bad luck, a disconnection with the front office.Haslam thought hiring a high-profile coordinator like Haley would help Jackson. In the end, it was his undoing.“Unfortunately, sometimes the best plans do not work out,” Haslam said. “In this case, they did not. We were optimistic and hopeful that they would, but they did not work out.”
Warner regularly this season https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Deion-Sanders-Jersey , and Elijah Lee has emerged as the weak side starter the past two weeks. He will likely start the final two ahead of Malcolm Smith as he looks to build momentum heading into the offseason.Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said on Thursday that Lee has done enough this season to work his way into competition at the WILL. He said Lee has been a steadying presence on defense, and is, “very smart, knows where to be, knows where to go.”The 49ers brought Lee in for an official pre-draft visit prior to the 2017 NFL Draft. He was eventually selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round. They waived him at final roster cuts and signed him to their practice squad. Saleh said the 49ers pursued him for their own practice squad at that point. That did not work out, but two weeks later they signed him to their 53-man roster.Saleh was asked what he liked about Lee heading into the draft last year. The San Francisco 49ers entered the 2018 season thinking they might have their MIKE and WILL linebacker positions figured out. Reuben Foster was going to open the season with a suspension, but the hope was that after that, he and Fred Warner would be the guys the 49ers could build the middle of their defense around the foreseeable future. That has since changed and the 49ers now have to figure out what’s next at the WILL linebacker position. Warner has proven a fantastic selection and while he has to carry this over into year two, optimism is high for his future. But who will start at WILL in 2019?Malcolm Smith was initially in that role during Foster’s absence. He moved over to strong side linebacker when Foster returned, but then returned to the weak side when Foster was hurt and then subsequently released. However, the past two weeks, Lee has gotten the start in his place. The 49ers have bigger needs than linebacker to address in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft Joe Montana Color Rush Jersey , but linebacker is likely on the radar as an option later in the draft. They also could use some of their sizable cap space on a running mate for Fred Warner. C.J. Moseley and Preston Brown are pending free agents, although it is possible they might be bigger than what the 49ers want. But do we see the 49ers make a splurge in free agency on the position, or do they continue to develop Lee, see what they want to do with Smith, and maybe invest in a cost-controlled option in the draft? Good morning folks, we've got an abbreviated Nuggets today, as the team is on a bye week. Although there's no 49ers game this week, the team stands to strengthen their draft position in a pair of games this week, as three of the chief opponents at the bottom of the league will be playing. The Raiders, currently the #1 pick in 2019, play against the three-win Buccaneers in what is likely their last chance to win a game. It'll be an uphill battle, as the Bucs have proven able to score points at will Y.A. Tittle Jersey , and, well, the Raiders are completely inept. It feels gross rooting for the cross-town rivals, but it's infinitely better than rooting for 49ers losses. The other game of interest is the Cardinals and Giants. Both of these teams have two wins, and are likely in the conversation for top 5 picks. The NFL currently has 7 three-win teams, and the victor today will join that logjam. The teams are currently tied in terms of strength of schedule, and both have beaten the 49ers. All things considered, either team winning would be fine - the Giants have 4th Quarter Hero Eli Manning, who is liable to pull out a victory any given Sunday, but the Cardinals have already had their bye week, and thus, more time to win another game. A tie would solidify both teams ahead of the 49ers in the standings https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Steve-Young-Jersey , but if they both lose out, and we pull off another W, we'd take a long tumble down the draft board. All in all, the real message here is that the 2019 season, with a healthy backfield and some new pieces can't come soon enough.2019 roster projection | Inman, Mercury2019 mock draft | Madson, NinerswireWeek 11 rooting guide | Madson, NinerswireRookie DBs not emerging yet | Madson, NinerswireDante Pettis is kind of a hipster | Madson, Ninerswire
McCarthy on Sunday Seattle Seahawks T-Shirts , just moments after losing 20-17 to the lowly Arizona Cardinals. It was just about two and a half weeks ago that the Packers traveled to Seattle on a Thursday night to face the Seahawks at 4-4-1, when a win would have given Green Bay a nice leg up on a wild card chase. Instead, the Packers lost 27-24 after a late touchdown to Ed Dickson was given up and McCarthy opted to punt with 4:20 remaining and only one timeout left, which allowed Seattle to run out the clock. Green Bay has lost five of their last six games despite Aaron Rodgers being healthy enough to start and throwing 21 touchdowns against just one interception. Receiver Davante Adams and running back Aaron Jones have also been effective, and the defense has shown signs of life with players like Blake Martinez, Kyler Fackrell, Kenny Clark, Mike Daniels (recently injured), and the rookie Jaire Alexander all playing well, but the end result is just 4-7-1. They aren’t the only NFC team making changes. The Carolina Panthers, one week after a loss to Seattle really put the damper on their own playoff hopes, have fired defensive line coach Brady Hoke and assistant defensive backs coach Jeff Imamura. It’s not as big of news as firing a head coach like McCarthy, who had been at the helm for the last 13 years, but head coach Ron Rivera is scrambling to make changes with four games to go. Perhaps the final four games of his eight-year tenure in Carolina. The Panthers have now lost four straight following a 6-2 start and travel to face the Cleveland Browns next week. Then two of their final three games are against the 10-2 New Orleans Saints.I was recently thinking about how different the San Francisco 49ers would look today if Jim Harbaugh had managed to win his two games against the Seahawks back in 2014. The 49ers finished 8-8 that year, but two wins over Seattle would have made them 10-6 and pushed them over the Seahawks, who were 12-4 that season. It wasn’t close, the Seahawks won those games easily, but just two results make a huge difference. Seattle didn’t get McCarthy fired and it wasn’t just the game last week that forced Rivera to start making changes in a last ditch effort to turn things around, but they contributed somewhat. Had things been a little different, then maybe it’s Pete Carroll looking at his options. Thankfully, it’s not.The Seahawks play two teams in the final four who won’t likely be making head coaching changes, but could do some shuffling with the assistants. In two weeks, they have a rematch against the 49ers https://www.theseahawksfanshop.com/hats , a team they just beat 43-16 on Sunday. Kyle Shanahan is just 8-20 as a head coach, with only two of those victories coming sans Jimmy Garoppolo. He probably is safe, but firing defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and some assistants is likely being discussed. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals are 3-9 and already fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. I don’t imagine that Steve Wilks will only get one season to prove himself as a head coach as they try and work with rookie Josh Rosen at QB, but is Byron Leftwich the answer at OC? We’ll see, there’s still one month remaining in the regular season. Plenty more changes to come. I wrote earlier this season that Bradley McDougald was having an All-Pro year. It’s certainly at a Pro-Bowl level; though winning that popularity contest for the underrated talent will prove tough. McDougald was incredible versus the Carolina Panthers, continuing his incredible year. In fact, I can only recall two bad McDougald plays this season. Both were tricky situations.Facing the Packers, McDougald lost at the line of scrimmage to Robert Tonyan yet managed to stay in phase with the tight end for an eternity downfield. Aaron Rodgers made a play that just a select few can, rolling right and lobbing a precise 54-yard deep ball right to his receiver for the touchdown. The other negative play came in Carolina from a brutally difficult assignment on Christian McCaffrey’s option route. Deep safety Tedric Thompson’s lunging tackle attempt, not showing a good short stride or aiming point, made this play far worse:But back to the subject of this article: McDougald was incredible last Sunday other than being beat by the quickness of McCaffrey on one occasion. He brought his man down in space, doing just enough to contain him on a day where the offensive star exploded in a career-high supernova.Evoking Kam ChancellorSeattle’s new safety tandem gets compared to the hall of fame duet Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas performed. That’s unfair on so many levels, but inevitable given the recent memories of that pair’s greatness. Yet McDougald managed to evoke Chancellor at Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers had the ball on the Seahawks’ 3-yard line and faced a 3rd and 1. Having failed in going for it on their first drive in a fourth down near the goalline, the scores are still tied at 0-0. Seattle’s defense this season has been excellent in third and short, ranking second in the league in conversions given up:Carolina’s jumbo formation saw the Seahawks respond with a goalline defense that had safeties Delano Hill and McDougald as the force defenders. The Panthers motioned their tight end away from the play, attempting to cause alignment issues, then ran an outside zone to the weakside. Nazair Jones, aligned at 3-technique, was the initial wrecker on this play. Responsible for what looked like the playside b gap, he squeezed inside through the playside a gap right into the backfield. Bobby Wagner, the run-through player at middle linebacker, took the b gap responsibility. It’s part of Seattle’s spill and then force philosophy. This has defensive linemen stepping inside to spill and play through their linemen Seattle Seahawks Hoodie , then linebackers flowing over the top of blocks to turnback the runner. The initial penetration would have caused McCaffrey to bounce the ball further outside. However, the exceptional play of McDougald prevented any bouncing. Taking on the fold block of right tackle Taylor Moton, McDougald does something never thought possible after the days of Chancellor. Getting lower than the offensive lineman, McDougald exploded upwards with a block destruct shoulder strike that propelled the 6-5, 325lb blocker backwards into McCaffrey. (McDougald is 6ft 1, 215lb!) Simultaneously, McDougald managed to stay in great outside-in leverage. The Seahawks talk about their safeties in this alignment against stretch plays “earholing” their man and being the “pure edge setter”. This was exactly that from McDougald, though instead of having to take on a fullback he rocked a tackle. As Jones contacted McCaffrey’s ankle, McCaffrey’s point of attack got smacked back into him and the runner was dropped for a loss. Carolina was forced to settle for a field goal on this occasion; Seattle’s defense showed why it is so tricky to convert 3rd and short against.“Everything I know is a lie” Cam Newton (possibly)If you play the latest Madden video game, under cover 3 beaters it’ll probably list “four verts” as a “cover 3-beater”. I wouldn’t know, because I despise how the next-gen Madden games play after they were wrecked by exclusive rights, the frostbite engine and an ultimate team focus—but that’s another article for a different day. (It doesn’t help that I now suck at video games but please don’t tell anyone else that)The point is, running four vertical routes is a standard cover 3 beater. That’s football 101. It’s why Nick Saban devised his rip-liz matching, which essentially turns into a four-deep coverage when faced with the route combination. It’s what made McDougald’s play on the ball so impressive initially.Carolina struggled massively inside the Seahawks’ redzone; they had 7 trips inside the 20 and came away with only 23 points. Following a highly questionable defensive pass interference call on Tre Flowers, Newton saw a clear single-high safety and decided to attack. The coverage that looked like a blatantly bland cover 3 wasn’t quite that. As Thompson cheated his deep middle third shell over to the boundary seam route, Newton’s excitement must have grown as he executed the run fake to McCaffrey. His other seam was bound to be open, right?Wrong. Thompson’s shading of roughly 60/40 to Greg Olsen’s seam was by design of a matching coverage Pete Carroll runs out of his over front (called Boston). In this coverage, Thompson’s deep middle third shell has a seam alert, meaning he’s assigned Olsen’s route primarily. Dropping back in his “soft sky” hook zone, McDougald quickly diagnosed Newton’s downfield intentions and carried the seam route from tight end Chris Manhertz deep. Not dissimilar to rip-liz itself, it’s Carroll’s soft version. For that reason, it’s a common call against 2x2 receiver alignments as it takes away four verts—even with a play-fake.Seattle Seahawks Over Zone Y (Boston)Found on Zach S. Dunn’s twitterHere’s how it looked on McDougald’s pick:Newton released what he thought was sure to be a touchdown, expecting McDougald to stop in a buzz/hook-curl zone. Instead Earl Thomas III Color Rush Jersey , McDougald continued and attacked the football. He leapt, raising his near arm to high-point the pass. After softly cushioning the weight of his own deflection, McDougald then secured the ball with a two-handed clasp. What a staggering turnover! It was Seattle’s first in four games, coming at a crucial time with the Seahawks only down by 3. Having flashed his skills playing the run, McDougald showcased his ability covering the pass. He continues to provide valuable versatility. The Wave TechniqueIt was hard not to notice McDougald’s frantic waving and jumping on that lovely, fantastic, brilliant Graham Gano 52-yard miss. Sure, it’s amusing to jokingly overstate the potential impact of the wave. BUT, it may have affected Gano. It’s fun to think this whatever the case:Pro-Bowl, at LeastI mentioned in the introduction that the Pro-Bowl is largely a popularity contest. For this reason, McDougald will likely miss out on an honor he thoroughly deserves. His best bet to gain the attention of voters is to keep intercepting the football. McDougald has three picks; the leader amongst safeties is Damonte Kazee with six; D.J. Swearinger, Shawn Williams and Eddie Jackson have four each.Pro-Bowler or not, once more I’m left marvelling at the fantastic business John Schneider did this past offseason. McDougald’s deal has two years to run after 2017, where the cost against the cap is $4,733,333 and $5,433,334 respectively. McDougald, at this level of play, has every right to be asking for more money at the end of the season. Given Seattle’s leverage, they can afford to stick firm and enjoy his value for another season at least. If there is one person the Green Bay Packers cannot afford to lose on offense besides Aaron Rodgers https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Antonio-Morrison-Jersey , it might be offensive tackle David Bakhtiari.of doing it. Bakhtiari is the best left tackle in football and when he’s not in the lineup things fall apart for the offense rather quickly. One must look no further than last Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Once Bakhtiari left the lineup, so did any chances of a Green Bay comeback. Jason Spriggs just wasn’t able to handle the Minnesota defensive line. With the Arizona Cardinals coming to Lambeau Field Sunday, Spriggs may be called into action again with Bakhtiari limited in practice. Every team does — in most situations Vince Biegel Color Rush Jersey , that would mean that they won the Super Bowl the year before. But in 2019, the Packers might get the 32nd pick for a different reason. The New Orleans Saints are currently the top-seeded team in the NFL and the team with the shortest odds to win the Super Bowl, according to several online sportsbooks. Green Bay acquired the Saints’ upcoming first-round pick through a trade on the first day of the 2018 NFL Draft, and thus are tied to New Orleans’ futures in the postseason.Currently, it appears that the best that pick would end up being is somewhere in the 25-to-28 range. The Saints can lock in a first-round bye with either two wins over their final three games (including tonight’s Monday Night Football contest against the Panthers) OR any combination of at least one win in any of their final three games and at least one loss by either the Los Angeles Rams or the Chicago Bears. If any of those situations happen, which appears likely Justin McCray Color Rush Jersey , New Orleans would be in line for an automatic pass into the Divisional round of the playoffs. Since the seeding of playoff teams depends first on how far they advance, Packers fans should be cheering for an early exit by the Saints to bump that pick up as high as possible. Now on to the Packers’ pick. Green Bay is alone in the NFL at 5-8-1, thanks to the Cleveland Browns’ victory on Saturday night. That makes the picture very clear — the Packers’ own pick currently sits at 11th overall. Here’s the current breakdown of the first-round draft order of the top 20 teams, excluding those currently in playoff position.Arizona Cardinals (3-11)Oakland Raiders (3-11)San Francisco 49ers (4-10)New York Jets (4-10)Jacksonville Jaguars (4-10)Detroit Lions (5-9)Atlanta Falcons (5-9)New York Giants (5-9)Buffalo Bills (5-9)Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-9)Green Bay Packers (5-8-1)Cincinnati Bengals OR Denver Broncos (6-8)Bengals OR BroncosCarolina Panthers (6-7)Cleveland Browns (6-7-1)Miami Dolphins (7-7)Washington (7-7)Philadelphia Eagles (7-7)Indianapolis Colts (8-6)Tennessee Titans (8-6)
It will be a cool Harry Carson Color Rush Jersey , mostly cloudy day just outside of Washington DC when the New York Giants take the field against the Washington Redskins. but today there is no chance of rain (or snow) in the forecast at FedEx Field. And it’s just as well as the Giants are trying to get their first divisional win of the season while closing the door on Washington’s Wild Card hopes, and hoping to do so without their most reliable receiver. While the Giants’ injury situation doesn’t compare to that of Washington, they took a pair of big hits this week in the loss of Landon Collins and Odell Beckham Jr. Collins is done for the season with a shoulder injury, while Beckham is out for this week with a quad bruise. It all comes down to this, probably. For many of you, this is the last week of the fantasy regular season and playoff positioning could be on the line. These roster decisions are going to matter, so let’s try to get you that playoff spot you deserve. Here’s this week’s start/sit:Running backStart: Chris Carson, Seattle SeahawksCarson continues to be Seattle’s lead back when he’s healthy and on the field. He’s had fewer than 14 carries in a game just once since Week 3. He’s been getting to the end zone, too Carl Banks Color Rush Jersey , with a touchdown in three of the past four games. Seattle is likely to be up big against San Francisco, which should allow the Seahawks to continue feeding Carson throughout the game.Start: Jordan Howard, Chicago BearsThe Bears are going to be without Mitchell Trubisky and will go with Chase Daniel for another game at quarterback. Chicago is already one of the most run-heavy teams in the league (45 percent overall) and they’ll likely be in the lead against a Giants team that has struggled to stop the run. Howard’s game against the Lions on Thanksgiving was the first of the season with fewer than 11 carries. It feels more like an outlier than the game plan with Daniel at quarterback. Sit: Adrian Peterson, Washington RedskinsPeterson is so game script dependent, meaning when Washington is ahead he gets the ball and does quite well. But when Washington trails, the production typically goes away. Washington is a seven-point underdog in Philadelphia and while the Eagles haven’t played well lately, neither have the Redskins. Peterson is dealing with a shoulder injury and Monday night might feature the return of Chris Thompson to the lineup, which would significantly alter Peterson’s playing time in passing situations.Sit: LeGarrette Blount Mark Bavaro Color Rush Jersey , Detroit LionsDon’t let the Thanksgiving touchdowns pull you in. Blount is red zone and touchdown dependent and while he got two against the Bears, that’s much less likely to happen against the Rams. With no added receiving value, a game trailing against Los Angeles is more fit for Theo Riddick to get more snaps at running back than Blount, whose only real purpose is to fall forward for two yards on each carry.Wide receiverStart: Kenny Golladay, Detroit LionsBecause the Lions are likely to trail and they will be throwing often, Kenny Golladay should be heavily involved. He had a quiet five catches and 90 yards last week against the Bears and was targeted on 41.6 percent of Detroit’s air yards in the game. Aqib Talib is likely to be back in the lineup for the Rams, which makes the secondary a more difficult matchup, but with how often the Lions should be passing Eli Manning Color Rush Jersey , Golladay is still going to get a good target share and opportunity to produce.Start: Corey Davis, Tennessee TitansDavis is fourth among receivers in percentage of his team’s targeted air yards this season. That’s a sign of opportunity and how involved a receiver is in his team’s passing game. Davis had four receptions for 96 and a touchdown on four targets against a pretty good Houston secondary. The Jets have allowed the 10th most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers this season and Davis is really the only option for the Titans there right now.Sit: Calvin Ridley, Atlanta FalconsRidley had one of his nice games against the Saints on Thanksgiving night — 13 targets, 8 receptions, 93 yards, and a touchdown. That came against the second and third corners for a secondary that has been improving, but still isn’t among the league’s best. The Ravens’ secondary is among the league’s best and that type of production is going to be harder to come by against a team that has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season.Sit: Anthony Miller, Chicago BearsMiller hasn’t been as involved in the game plan over the past two weeks with just a combined seven targets. If that continues to be his workload Connor Barwin Color Rush Jersey , he’s going to be touchdown dependent to start in fantasy and the Bears might not be passing all that often against the Giants. Too many things have to break right for Miller to matter, and that’s going to risky in a game that’s likely to mean a lot to you for playoff positioning.Tight endStart: Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay BuccaneersJameis Winston as the starter is better for Brate’s production — the two have a chemistry that was not the same with Fitzpatrick under center. Brate also gets the bump from O.J. Howard being out and facing a Carolina Panthers team that has allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends.Sit: Jordan Reed, Washington RedskinsReed got eight targets in Colt McCoy’s debut against the Cowboys, which is a good sign for how the quarterback might rely on the tight end. But the Eagles have been good defending against the position — fourth-fewest fantasy points per game — and Josh Doctson got 10 targets (Doctson is a sneaky start if you need a receiver). Against the Eagles’ secondary, Washington might be more likely to involve the wide receivers and if Chris Thompson returns, that will also reduce Reed’s share of the offense.

BEREA https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Howard-Wilson-Jersey , Ohio (AP) — Baker Mayfield bravely stood in the pocket last week, held the ball — sometimes for too long — and took some punishing shots from the Los Angeles Mentally, Cleveland’s quarterback hasn’t healed.“That is the worst loss that I have ever had,” Mayfield said Wednesday. For the first time this season, the Browns (2-3-1) weren’t competitive in Sunday’s 38-14 loss to the Chargers, and Mayfield looked like what he is: a rookie who is going to make mistakes and take some lumps from time to time. But as he and his teammates prepare to play at Tampa Bay on Sunday, the No. 1 overall pick is showing leadership and a resolve not to let it happen again. The Browns may soon find out how far they’ve come — or how far they’ve got to go.“Any loss like that hurts,” Mayfield said. “You have to push forward and just have to do your job, and you will find out what this team is made of. It is never about the week before or if you win or lose — it is how you react from it. Coming off of a loss, we will really see what this team is made of.”Mayfield’s third career pro start was one of the worst of his football life. He completed just 22 of 46 passes (48 percent) for 238 yards with two interceptions. For a player who completed 71 percent of his passes last season at Oklahoma and 69 percent over four years (the first at Texas Tech), Mayfield’s inaccuracy against the Chargers was an anomaly. It was the first time his completion rate was under 50 percent since Nov. 21 https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Bernie-Kosar-Jersey , 2015, when he went 9 of 20 against TCU. However, he only played the first half of that game because of a concussion.Mayfield only twice completed less than 50 percent of his passes in 48 college games, which is why he was so despondent about his performance last week.“Mathematically, which I think goes hand in hand with emotionally,” he said when asked why he called it his worst loss. “Just did not play well, plain and simple. No way around it. It was not fun.”Cleveland’s offensive line struggled to protect Mayfield, whose mobility was impacted when he slipped and tweaked his ankle while running out of bounds in the first quarter. The Chargers were able to keep Mayfield from rolling out and making plays. But perhaps more problematic was Mayfield missed open receivers, misread coverages and didn’t release the ball quickly enough. There were plays when a simple dump-off throw to a running back would have been a better option.“Kudos to them for doing their job,” Mayfield said of the Chargers. “They did it well. At the same time, if I get the ball out of my hands, then none of that really matters. It just comes down to me not doing my job to the best of my ability Joe Thomas Jersey , plain and simple. There is no way around it. I have to be better for this team and be that for our offense.”Browns coach Hue Jackson was pleased to hear that Mayfield was accountable. However, it wasn’t entirely his fault as Cleveland’s receivers weren’t getting open and rookies Antonio Callaway and Damion Ratley didn’t make plays on deep balls that could have been touchdowns.Mayfield took the blame.Jackson spread it around.“We have to make sure that we are in the right spots for him all of the time,” Jackson said. “I think there were some opportunities there. As I said to our line coaches, we have to make sure that we give up ground grudgingly for this young man. I do not want people hitting our quarterback. He has been hit way too much in my mind and then he has to get the ball out of his hand.“I have seen some things where he can improve, but I have seen some things where the unit can improve more than anything.”NOTES: QB Tyrod Taylor, who lost his job to Mayfield when he suffered a concussion in Week 3, believes he can still be a winning NFL starter. The 29-year-old said he has not considered asking for a trade. “My mindset is to continue to keep helping this team,” Taylor said in his first extensive interview since getting hurt. “It’s a new role for me.” Taylor will be a free agent after the season, and Jackson expects him to finish it with the Browns. “Until someone tells me something differently,” Jackson said. “He is our backup quarterback.” … Starting C JC Tretter (ankle) did not practice, but Jackson thinks he’ll be ready for Sunday. If not, rookie Austin Corbett will start. Four rookie quarterbacks started in the same week for only the second time in NFL history in Week 4. None of them earned a win.Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield and Arizona’s Josh Rosen came close. Both of their teams lost by a field goal. Buffalo’s Josh Allen had the worst game of the group in a shutout loss. Sam Darnold and the Jets didn’t have a chance against Jacksonville.Mayfield was 21 of 41 for 295 yards Chris Hubbard Color Rush Jersey , two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 45-42 overtime loss at Oakland. He came off the bench to lead the Browns to a rare win the previous game against the Jets.Rosen also made his first start, going 15 of 27 for 180 yards and one TD in a 20-17 loss to Seattle.Allen was 16 of 33 for 151 yards and two picks in a 22-0 loss to Green Bay. He led the Bills to a stunning upset at Minnesota a week earlier.Darnold was 17 of 34 for 167 yards and one TD in a 31-12 loss to the Jaguars.Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson got four carries in a win against the Steelers so all five quarterbacks picked in the first round played the same week. When Mayfield and Rosen made their debuts in Week 3, it was the first time five first-round quarterbacks played within the first three games of a season. Here’s a look inside more numbers going into Week 5:BREEZING PAST PEYTON: Drew Brees needs 201 yards passing yards when New Orleans hosts the Redskins on Monday to surpass Peyton Manning (71,940) and Brett Favre (71,838) for most passing yards in NFL history. Brees (496) and Brady (497) are close to joining Manning and Favre as the only members of the 500 touchdown passes club.GETTING OFFENSIVE: The totals for points (3,030), touchdowns (344) and touchdown passes (228) are all the highest through the first four weeks of a season.PASSING LEAGUE: The 12 individual performances of at least 400 yards is the most through the first four weeks. The five individual 400-yard passing performances in Week 4 were the most ever in a single week.PARITY: The average margin of victory has been 9.9 points and 38 games have been decided by eight points or fewer, the most ever through four weeks. Six games in Week 4 had the winning points scored in the final 10 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime.FLYING HIGH: The Rams can become the fifth team to score at least 30 points in each of their first five games to start a season. Three of the previous four teams to accomplish the feat reached the Super Bowl.MAGNIFICENT MAHOMES: Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has 14 TD passes and no interceptions. Peyton Manning holds the record to start a season with 20 TDs and no picks.ADAM’S MARK: Vikings receiver Adam Thielen has at least 100 yards receiving yards in the first four games. Only two players have done it in the first five: Charley Hennigan (1961) and Bob Boyd (1954).
The San Francisco 49ers snapped the streak on Sunday San Francisco 49ers T-Shirts , topping the Seattle Seahawks for the first time in 10 matchups between the division rivals. Shanahan’s 49ers, displaying uncommon grit for a team with only four wins to their name. Here’s our stock report after the 49ers’ Week 15 win over the Seahawks.Stock up: DL DeForest BucknerThere isn’t a player on the 49ers’ defense that shows up against Seahawks like Buckner. Over the team’s two matchups this season, Buckner has totaled 18 tackles, six tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and four sacks. His highlight play on the day came during a rollout from Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who started right but cut back toward the 49ers’ side of the field. Buckner chased Wilson to the sideline, running him down before the line of scrimmage for Buckner’s second sack on the afternoon. Buckner now has 11 sacks on the season and is eligible for a contract extension after the season.Stock down: CB Ahkello WitherspoonWitherspoon’s turbulent year ended with a season-ending injury. The 49ers cornerback suffered a sprained knee against the Seahawks Sunday, and while the injury isn’t considered serious, it was enough to end Witherspoon’s season two games early. The second-year cornerback got off to a rough start, allowing six touchdowns in his first six games on 2018 — although he started to rebound late in the season. Third-round rookie Tarvarius Moore stepped in for Witherspoon with encouraging results as the game wore on. The 49ers will get an extended look at More over the season’s final two games.Stock up: K Robbie GouldAnother game-winning field goal for Gould, who hit a 36-yarder to seal the win for San Francisco. He was four for four on the day along with two successful extra points. In two years with the 49ers, Gould made 68 of 71 field-goals and all six attempts from 50-plus yards. His 95.8 conversion percentage is the best in the NFL over the past two seasons, per San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch. Shanahan told the media Sunday that he wanted Gould, a free agent after this season, back with the team in 2019. The 49ers’ kicker echoed that sentiment. Gould, who just hit 1,500 points in his career, should be considered a priority for the front office.Stock down: Draft PositionThe 49ers owned the first-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft heading into their Week 15 matchup, followed closely by the Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders. The team’s overtimewin over the Seahawks on Sunday moved them down three spots to pick No. 4 behind the Cardinals (3-11) https://www.49ersfanshop.com/hats , Raiders (3-11), and the New York Jets. The 49ers and Jets both own a record of 4-10, but New York’s strength of schedule is currently weaker than San Francisco’s, per Tankathon.Stock up: Coach Kyle ShanahanThe past two weeks have left little doubt as to Shanahan’s effectiveness as the 49ers’ head coach. A 2-10 team with perceivably nothing to play for, ravaged by injuries and fielding an offense led by a third-string quarterback, found a way to best two playoff-hopeful teams in the Seahawks and Denver Broncos. Shanahan has the 49ers playing for each other, displaying an obvious heart and intensity despite a season that hasn’t gone as planned. With the expected return of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the offseason, the 49ers under Shanahan will again be a team to watch in 2019.Stock up: Coordinator Robert SalehIt was clear the 49ers’ defense wasn’t going to allow Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense to score another 37 points like they did in their Week 13 matchup in Seattle. Often the most under fire from critics, Saleh’s defense played stubborn and inspired football on Sunday, despite fielding rookies and backups at several key positions. Linebacker Fred Warner, defensive back D.J. Reed Jr., safety Marcell Harris, cornerback Tarvarius Moore, linebacker Elijah Lee, defensive lineman D.J. Jones and safety Antone Exum are all young, inexperienced players that held crucial roles in the 49ers’ win over the Seahawks. Saleh’s defense forced two punts to close out the fourth quarter and another in overtime to put the game in the offense’s hands.Stock up: Nick MullensWe’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Mullens. The 49ers’ quarterback, after throwing for 400+ yards in Week 13, put together another solid performance against the Seahawks. Mullens completed 20 of 29 passes for 275 yards, one touchdown San Francisco 49ers Hoodie , no turnovers and a quarterback rating of 110.6 at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. He led the 49ers’ offense on a game-winning drive in overtime to get Gould within range. Mullens’ sixth start and third win of the season was his most impressive. On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills announced the release of Kelvin Benjamin. It’s a rather depressing announcement as Benjamin knocked his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers out of the park and was seen as a solid receiving option. Unfortunately, with injuries and now questions of work ethic, Benjamin finds himself a free agent. The San Francisco 49ers could use some wide receiver help with the recent injuries and personal issues facing the unit. Marquise Goodwin has been out, but returns this week while Pierre Gar莽on has battled injuries all season. It’s a safe bet that the 49ers will move on from Garon in 2019 and may want to look at bringing in one more wide receiver, be it from the draft or free agency to push Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne Trent Taylor and others.Problem is, if Benjamin is someone to kick the tires on, he’s not exactly the mold Kyle Shanahan wants. Benjamin can catch the ball (well, when he wants to), but his separation skills leave something to be desired. Separation is something Shanahan values above all else and it has helped him when scheming his wide receivers open, something Pettis excels at. Benjamin was a first round pick for the Panthers whom dealt him to the Bills. The Bills cut their losses that same season with the release, which already indicates something is wrong with Benjamin for him to go from first round pick with great rookie season, to trade, to release. With Garon gone (theoretically), the 49ers will have a younger wide receiver unit. They passed on Dez Bryant, as did the rest of the league in the 2018 offseason. Kelvin Benjamin could be worth a workout to bring in, but the fact he’s gone from what he was to being a free agent in just one season is concerning. Should the 49ers spend some cash to bring Benjamin in?
When the Dallas Cowboys cut Dan Bailey this September Barkevious Mingo Color Rush Jersey , a fuss was made by many. The Star-T move. Indeed, people from Seattle to Bombay and Bangkok stopped what they were doing and petitioned world leaders to plea for Jerry Jones to bring back his field goal kicker.Or, you know, he wasn’t the best person for the job anymore.Bailey was history’s most accurate kicker, but also coming off of an injury-shortened season in which he went 15-of-20 on field goals and missed two extra points. After missing four games with a groin injury, Bailey went 5-of-7 on PATs and 7-of-12 on FGs in the final four games. In New York, Bailey missed from 50 and 53, plus a PAT. In Philadelphia, Bailey missed from 23 and missed a PAT. Instead, Dallas went with Brett Maher this season and he’s 27-of-32, including 5-of-6 from beyond 50, and he made a 62-yarder on Sunday that helped Dallas get to OT and defeat the Eagles.Things are not going so well for Bailey, and that was well before Bobby Wagner leapt over the Minnesota Vikings offensive line to block a kick in the fourth quarter on Monday. Many are arguing that the leap was a penalty because he puts his hands on his teammates while he leapt, but others are saying that because he did not appear to bear weight on them in order to gain height for the leap, that it is not a penalty.I’m here to tell you that it might not matter either way. Bailey had a low probability to make the kick and the Vikings still had a chance to win the game even after the block.Minnesota signed Bailey in Week 3 after rookie Daniel Carlson went 0-for-3 in a 29-29 tie against the Packers in Green Bay. Carlson missed from 48 and 49, but most importantly missed a 35-yarder as time expired in overtime that would’ve won the Vikings the game. Shades of Blair Walsh were enough for the Vikings to react quickly to a tie game against a division rival.Carlson’s response: He’s 10-of-11 with the Oakland Raiders and overall this season he’s 20-of-20 on PATs. He’s 7-of-8 outdoors since that fateful day in Lambeau. Bailey has not been nearly so good on the road.Going into Monday, Bailey had been 16-of-22 on field goal attempts with one missed PAT. And since a September road game in Sunny Los Angeles where he went 3-for-3 Ed Dickson Color Rush Jersey , Bailey was 9-of-13 on the road, with seven of those made attempts coming from under 40 yards. This is Dan Bailey on the road this season. Remember: During Monday’s kick attempt, he was 47 yards away from the goal post.Bailey hit from 37, 39, and 40 in Los Angeles.Bailey hit from 22, 37, and 52 in Philadelphia. Missed from 28, 45.Bailey hit from 22, 26, and 43 in New York. Missed from 42.Bailey hit two 36 yarders in Chicago.Bailey hit from 39 in New England. Missed from 48.Overall, Bailey is 2-of-5 from outside of 40 yards in outdoor conditions since the end of September. He’s hit from 43 and 52, while missing from 42, 45, and 48. What really were his odds to make that kick on Monday, on the road, outdoors, at night Jaron Brown Color Rush Jersey , in Seattle, during or just after a light rain, from 47 yards? It’s interesting that Pete Carroll and Wagner even felt he needed to attempt the leap. But he did, it worked, he blocked it, and the Seahawks got the ball back. And let’s not forget that the game was far from over. The score was 6-0 at that point and there was 5:38 remaining on the clock. The Vikings had their chance to get yet another stop and to get the ball back. They also could have been down 6-3 instead of 6-0 but as Anthony McFarland and Jason Witten argued, Minnesota chose to go for it on their previous drive instead of giving Bailey a chip shot field goal attempt.Instead, when Seattle got the ball back, the Vikings forgot that Russell Wilson’s arm isn’t his only weapon. On the second play after the block, Wilson ran 40 yards. Then Chris Carson carried it five straight times, gaining 21 yards and scoring a touchdown that led to a two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead. That — and Justin Coleman’s touchdown — sealed the win for Seattle. Not the block. Which, given everything we know about the kicking situation Minnesota and Bailey were facing, was less likely than likely to have been good anyway. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin says he’s ready to return to the lineup this week against the Arizona Cardinals.Baldwin has missed the past two games for Seattle after injuring the MCL in his right knee in the team’s season opener against the Denver Broncos.Baldwin returned to the practice field on Wednesday for the first time since defensive tackle Domata Peko rolled up on the back of his leg in Denver.“I know Pete has a press conference coming up eventually (on Friday) so you’ll have to ask him. … I’m ready to go,” Baldwin said on Thursday.“That’s going to be their call. There’s a lot of things that go into it, obviously, the precautionary reasons of making sure that I’m healthy fully so that I can go for the rest of the season and not just this game.”Said Carroll on Wednesday: “He looks really good and light on his feet. He looks very confident that he can have a chance to play this week Tre Flowers Color Rush Jersey , so we’ll see how that goes. He’s confident, that’s not a surprise. Let’s see if he can pull it off.”Baldwin hadn’t missed a game for Seattle since the 2012 season. He had appeared in 89 straight regular-season games and 12 postseason games since the previous time he was sidelined for an injury. The two games he missed that season were the only absences he’s had in his first seven years in the NFL.“Still a little frustrating because I feel like I’m still being held back a little bit,” Baldwin said. “I understand why and the precautionary reasons, but I’m chomping at the bit. I’m ready to go. This is what I do, so I’m excited about getting back out there.”Baldwin hasn’t enjoyed being forced to watch practice and games from the sideline. He got just two days of practice in with the team at the start of training camp before being shut down for nearly a month because of an issue with his left knee. He didn’t appear in any of the team’s four preseason games before ramping back up for the start of the season. He played just 11 snaps in Denver before injuring his right knee, most coming before the injury while a couple came as he tried to see if he could play through it.“I wanted to do everything I could to go back in and I did that and realized it wasn’t getting better,” Baldwin said.Baldwin has been limited in both practices he’s participated in on Wednesday and Thursday.Carroll said they will need to see how Baldwin can handle a workload with essentially two troublesome knees.“We need to find out,” he said. “We need to find out how it goes. Doug’s (Baldwin) a guy that we communicate with very directly over a long period of time. We’ll work our way through it and we’ll just assess how he’s doing and how it’s going.”Notes: Safety Earl Thomas did practice on Thursday — as he did a week ago — despite missing practice for non-injury reasons on Wednesday. Thomas has said he doesn’t intend to practice if he feels even the slightest bit diminished as he tries to look out for his health absent a contract extension from the team. … LG Ethan Pocic (ankle), RB C.J. Prosise (abdomen), DE Dion Jordan (hip), DE Rasheem Green (ankle) and LB K.J. Wright (knee) did not practice for a second straight day. RB Chris Carson (hip), RG D.J. Fluker (knee), DT Shamar Stephen (foot) and S Delano Hill (hamstring) were limited.
Everyone seems to agree that something isn’t right Kentrell Brice Color Rush Jersey , but it’s hard to put a finger on just one thing that’s wrong. If you stare at it long enough, though, you kind of start to see what you want to see. The most frustrating thing? You’re still probably right.Do you think coaching is the issue? There’s evidence to support that. Are you of the persuasion that Aaron Rodgers could be playing better? You can quite easily argue that position, too. Do you think the Packers need more reliable contributions from playmakers not named Davante Adams and Aaron Jones? You probably don’t even have to look up any stats or game clips to get people to agree with you.Such is the state of the Packers this season. Hindsight is 20/20. In the heat of the moment Jabaal Sheard Jersey , tough decisions are made. Sometimes they work out. Sometimes they don’t. ndsight bias is when you look back on a situation and say, “Well, yeah, of course they should have done this instead of that because what they did didn’t work. I knew it wouldn’t work.” If you disagreed with the call at the time, that’s fine. However, it’s important to understand the reasoning as to why those tough decisions were made and avoid hindsight bias. The Indianapolis Colts currently sit two games back of the Houston Texans for the lead in the AFC South. Many fans will look back to Frank Reich’s aggressive play calling in overtime against the Texans in Week 4 and question whether he made the right decision. Here’s some advice, don’t do that. Don’t fall into that trap. Why? Because no one knows how the end of that game would have played out had Reich decided to punt instead. The Texans could have blocked the kick or returned the punt for a TD. They could have gotten a long gain to Hopkins to set up the game winning field goal anyway. They could have pulled a miracle play like we saw in Miami that the Dolphins used to beat the Patriots. The Steelers used a similar play last week with 14 seconds remaining to put themselves in position to tie the game but missed the kick. Houston would have had about 17 seconds remaining if Reich punted. There’s literally no way of knowing with absolute certainty that Week 4 would have ended in a tie had Reich punted. And let’s not forget, if the Colts had converted, everyone would be talking about how great a call it was and laud Reich for his aggressiveness. What we do know is the locker room loved the call.Former players loved that call. Reich explained that he trusted his players to make a play. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. That time it didn’t. But the most important thing is the players believe in Frank Reich and he believes in them.In the very next week, the Texans again went to overtime. The Dallas Cowboys had the ball, 4th and 1, at the Houston 42 yard line. Instead of going for it with one of the better running backs in the league, Ezekiel Elliott, Jason Garrett punted. Houston won the game.Yes, the time remaining was different. But as a Colts fan, would you rather have a conservative coach like Garrett that doesn’t believe his players can get a single yard or would you rather have Frank Reich who trusts his players to make plays? Reich is the obvious choice. One could argue it was more important for Frank Reich to solidify his locker room in that moment, which it did. There is some concern that Reich now feels he must be aggressive in those situations, like he was in the Jacksonville game. However, the only call I questioned at the time was going for it at the Jacksonville 31 yard line. Going for it on 4th and 1 at the Jacksonville 1-yard line was fine in my book. Their offense was struggling so making them drive 99 yards would have been tough for them.Another issue with hindsight bias is it causes one to overemphasize the importance of a single moment. Fans focus on that failed conversion attempt against Houston as the reason the Colts lost that game but few remember Ka’imi Fairbairn missed the field goal. However, Reich called time out and gave Houston another chance, which Fairbairn made. Fans also overemphasize the importance of a single game over the course of a 16 game season. Yes, the loss to the Texans in Week 4 hurt. However, if we’re focusing on a single play, let’s take a look down memory lane to one play in several games that had they gone differently, the Colts would be in a very different position. Week 1: Jack Doyle fumbling against the Cincinnati Bengals cost the Colts an opportunity to win the game. Doyle is a six year veteran and has four total fumbles in his career. The guy is one of the more reliable players on the team. It was a fluke. Had Doyle just gone down instead of pushing for extra yardage, the Colts would likely be only a game back of Houston.Week 3: During the Eagles final touchdown drive, which was 17 plays and lasted an incredible 11:19, another single play happened that may have changed the game. With the Colts up 16-13, on 3rd and 9 Nelson Agholor caught a pass and clearly stepped out of bounds two yards short of the first down. That would have put them at 4th and 2 at the Colts 28 yard line with about 5 minutes left. The Eagles likely kick that field goal or the Colts defense would at least get the opportunity to stop them on 4th down.Week 4: We’ve talked about the 4th down call ad nauseam. However, on the Colts’ first possession in overtime, Marcus Johnson had a ball hit him in the numbers on a 3rd and 2 at the Houston 25 but dropped it. Had he made that play, the Colts possibly score a touchdown and end the game.Week 5: The Colts went down 31-17 but were moving the ball with ease against the Patriots. Zach Pascal bobbled a pass from Andrew Luck and it got intercepted. The next play, Sony Michel scored a touchdown. That’s potentially a 14 point turn around so instead of it being 38-17 Pierre Desir Color Rush Jersey , it could have been 31-24. The Colts defense forced a three and out on the Patriots’ next possession. The offense went down and scored, which would have tied the game 31-31.Admittedly, that last one is a stretch but you catch my drift. In any game, there’s one play that can make a difference. The Colts were unlucky quite often early in the season when it came to those one plays. To the contrary, Houston has been incredibly lucky all season. They got a reprieve against the Colts in Week 4. In Week 5, the Cowboys didn’t go for it on 4th down despite Elliott running for almost 3 yard per carry that game. In Week 6, they got a pick 6 with 1:24 remaining against the Bills. In Week 9, Vance Joseph decided, with 43 seconds remaining and at least one timeout, to settle for a 51 yard field goal with a struggling kicker rather than get closer for a much easier kick. In Week 11, Houston got a 100 yard pick 6 against Washington and broke Alex Smith’s leg but still almost lost with a long field goal that fell short. In at least five games during their 9 game win streak, the ball kept bouncing in Houston’s favor. That’s incredible. The fact is the Colts weren’t lucky early and Houston has been incredibly lucky all season. One shouldn’t focus on the 4th down call against Houston as the main reason the Colts aren’t winning the division. The other problem with hindsight bias is it clouds your view of the overall picture. The Colts weren’t expected by many to be in playoff contention, let alone the division title, this year. Even if the Colts had won in Week 4, they’d still be a game behind the Texans with them playing the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jaguars in the final three weeks. There’s no guarantee they lose any of those games and they’d need to lose at least one. The Colts finish the season with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans and would need to win out. Will it be amazing if the Colts make the playoffs? Abso-freaking-lutely. Do they still have a chance to make the playoffs? Yes and it’s actually better than you might think. If the Colts win out and if either the Baltimore Ravens or Pittsburgh Steelers lose one more game, the Colts are in. Baltimore hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15 and Cleveland Browns in Week 17 but play at the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16. Pittsburgh’s schedule is markedly more difficult. They host the New England Patriots in Week 15 and Cincinnati Bengals Week 17 but go on the road to play the New Orleans Saints in Week 16.Both teams have some difficult games coming up and could easily lose at least one game so don’t count the Colts out based solely on the Week 4 loss to Houston. If the Colts do make the playoffs, they will be a tough out and have a legitimate shot to make it to the Super Bowl. There doesn’t seem to be any juggernaut in the AFC that can’t be beaten. The Colts have a top 5 quarterback with a top offensive line and a fast defense that forces turnovers. That’s a recipe for success in January. Add on they’ll likely have won at least 8 of their last 10 games, more likely on a 4 game win streak, and teams won’t want to face the Colts in the playoffs. Everything the Colts are doing this year is icing on the cake. Chris Ballard is building this team the right way. Fans should be excited about the future of the franchise and stop falling into the trap of hindsight bias. We can’t change what happened. We don’t know whether the Colts would have tied Houston if Reich had punted. We should stop worrying about the things we cannot change and enjoy the ride that is the Colts bright future. It’s time to take Frank Reich out of the conversation for Coach of the Year. His poor clock management, bad decisions and terrible play-calling cost the Colts in a big way against the Jaguars. You can be a good, aggressive minded coach and I like what Reich has done for the most part with the Colts this season, but there are many instances where being overly aggressive is not the right move. That was on display against the Jaguars. In the first half, Reich was faced with two 4th and 1 situations and decided to go for them in both instances. While there was definitely a good argument to go for it on the 1-yard line, the play call they decided to use was dumb. The shovel pass had a nice run as a 4th down call for a couple of years, but in recent times, it’s been shut down by most defenses around the league in those situations. It also isn’t effective when a team has used it before in the season, which the Colts have done. I’ve also never been a fan of running 4 yards to get 1 yard. The Patriots are one of the most successful teams in the NFL every yard on 4th and 1 and their most frequent play is the QB sneak. If you have a yard, don’t make your life more difficult by having to run a few yards to move 1 yard upfield. So you can argue both ways on the decision, but the play call was poor.Later in the first half, the Colts were once again faced with a 4th and 1 situation, but this time they were on the 32 yard line of the Jaguars. Considering the Colts were on the road, against an extremely talented and strong defense and were also up against a very weak offense with their backup quarterback and running back that struggles to put up points, the Colts should’ve just taken the points and moved on. They went for it on 4th down and called a terrible tight end reverse play with Eric Ebron https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Kemoko-Turay-Jersey , who had to run 9 yards to get 1 yard. He was immediately stopped by the strong Jaguars secondary who ripped through all the blocks of the receivers (who are all undersized compared to the Jaguars secondary) and stopped Ebron for a big loss. This is another situation where it makes no sense to run several yards to get 1 yard. It also didn’t make sense to go for it.It’s important to understand context when deciding to go for it. As mentioned earlier, the Colts were playing the Jaguars, who were playing with a backup quarterback, running back, tight end, and 3 backup offensive linemen. The Jaguars are the third worst offense in the NFL, averaging just under 17 points per game this season. If the Colts were playing the Chiefs or the Rams and scoring touchdowns almost every time you touch the ball is a must, then you have an argument to be extremely aggressive, but when you’re playing a weak offense with many backups, you take the points and work from there. The Jaguars averaged 2.9 yards per carry and 6.2 yards per attempt. They had 229 yards of total offense and averaged 4.5 yards per play. The Colts defense did their job against a poor offense. This was evident the entire game. Not understanding the context was a massive issue and it affected Reich’s play calling and decision-making. Late in the 4th quarter, the Colts were down by 6 and driving in Jaguars territory. They were once again faced with a 4th and 1 in Vinatieri field goal range. Frank Reich messed up badly in this situation. Their 3rd down play ended with 3:05 left on the clock. Instead of immediately taking a timeout, Reich proceeded to waste 30 seconds before using his timeout. Those 30 seconds proved crucial on the final Colts drive of the game, which ran out of time. Not only did Reich mess it up, but he decided to call another horrendous play. Now, before I discuss the play, the decision to go for it was justified. While there are strong arguments for kicking the field goal or for going for it, the play call that was ensued was pitiful. On that fourth down play, the Colts called a play action pass against a team that was clearly playing tight man coverage against every eligible receiver and showing a heavy blitz (from a jet look). The defense didn’t bite on the fake, an unblocked blitzing defender crashed hard and sacked Luck within seconds. Luck hesitated for a second because his primary receiving option was covered and that’s all the defender needed to make a play. Reich overthought it and made another poor decision with the play-call.While the play calling in the crucial fourth down were brutal, the play calling throughout the entire game was poor, especially in the 2nd half. The receivers were not getting open down the field versus the stout Jaguars secondary, but Reich refused to adjust his play calling. Instead of changing things in favour of a “dink and dunk” style that emphasizes quick, rhythmic passes that gets the ball into the hands of the receivers quickly, he decided to keep going with a more vertical passing attack. Usually, I don’t favour a horizontal passing attack with quick, short passes, but in this scenario, it was the only one that made sense. The Jaguars secondary gave the Colts the underneath passes, so the cushion was there. You have shifty receivers in TY Hilton and Nyheim Hines (who sometimes lines up at receiver) and they weren’t utilized properly. The beauty of this type of attack is once it’s developed, the Colts will get more opportunities to throw the ball downfield. Nevertheless, the Colts sticking with a poor vertical attack was like watching a 5 year old trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Don’t get me wrong, Reich has done a fantastic job this season turning around the offense, getting Andrew Luck’s career back on track in a big way and I personally love his aggressive nature. But if we’re going to marvel over his great performances, then he deserves the same amount of flack when he delivers a blunder. The Jaguars game was a blunder.
CLEVELAND (AP) — During a meeting this week with his defense https://www.brownsfanshop.com/JC-Tretter-Jersey , .And a warning.A 6-foot-4, 270-pound mass of chiseled muscle, power and speed, Garrett cuts an imposing figure. He’s a physical specimen, the kind of athlete that stands out even in a room full of elite humans.Oh, and he happens to be about the same size as Carolina quarterback Cam Newton.“I said that he is bigger than Myles,” Williams said. “People said, ‘What?’ I said, ‘There it is. There is your quarterback right here— Myles Garrett. That is the kind of framework that you guys are looking at here.’ We have our work cut out for us.”One week after failing to contain Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Browns (4-7-1) now have to deal with Newton and the Carolina Panthers (6-6), who have lost four straight games and need a win Sunday to improve their playoff hopes.Williams has a history with Newton, who has been slowed by a sore right shoulder and has been limited in practice over the past few weeks. When Williams was with New Orleans, he had to plan for Newton twice a year and still seems to have scars from his encounters with the 6-foot-5, 245-pound dual threat.“He has grown and taken very good steps year by year by year,” Williams said. “(Panther offensive coordinator) Norv (Turner) has done a really good job with the things that they are doing with him. It is back-to-back games with that kind of a quarterback, but more powerful in the pocket. When you are taking a look at getting him down in the pocket, now that is a grown man. It is not a small quarterback.”Newton is coming off a poor performance in last week’s loss at Tampa Bay. He threw four interceptions and was replaced on the game’s final play by backup Taylor Heinicke, who came in to attempt a Hail Mary that wasn’t answered.Earlier this week, Newton said he’d be ready to face the Browns and try to get the Panthers back on track. Carolina trails Minnesota by one-half game for the NFC’s second-wild card spot and can’t afford another loss. With the holiday season approaching, Newton said ending the Panthers’ slide would be wonderful.“Is Santa listening? I hope he comes early,” said Newton, who needs just 1 passing yard to reach 3,000 for the eighth straight year. “I feel like we are so close. Every week I try to think of certain things that can get me over the hump. There is no denying and faking that you see other teams thriving and you know that we can do the same thing.“All you need is one (win) to catch fire.”BAKER BOUNCES BACKBrowns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield is looking to put together a complete game after a half-good performance last Sunday.Mayfield’s three interceptions in the first half led to the Texans opening a 23-0 lead. He recovered nicely by passing for 351 yards after halftime Ozzie Newsome Jersey , and he knows he must be more inconsistent. And while Mayfield accepted blame for the miscues, offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens said it wasn’t just the QB’s fault.“When interceptions happen, sometimes it is bad decisions by the quarterback, sometimes it is pressure happening more than it should, sometimes it is guys not being in the right spot, sometimes it is a bad play call, and sometimes it is a combination of everything,” he said. “That is sort of what happened the other day. This did not all fall on Baker.”DEFENSIVE ADJUSTMENTWith Carolina’s defense underperforming, Panthers coach Ron Rivera has taken play-calling duties away from coordinator Eric Washington. The Panthers have forced just one takeaway in the last four games and have struggled on third down and in the red zone.Rivera was Chicago’s defensive coordinator for three years.Safety Eric Reid doesn’t expect much to change philosophically, but Rivera may call more blitzes.“I don’t know if a ton of stuff will be different, but he has a different way of going about things,” Reid said. “He explains why we are doing things and why he likes making a call in a certain situation, the philosophy behind it and how to execute it.”REPLACING OLSENGreg Olsen’s right foot gave out again last week, and the Panthers will be without the three-time Pro Bowl tight end for the remainder of the season. Olsen, who broke the foot twice in the last two years, ruptured his plantar fascia.Rookie Ian Thomas and Chris Manhertz replace Olsen. Thomas is considered more of the receiving threat. He was pressed into duty earlier this season with Olsen out, but struggled at times with the intricacies of the offense, including route running. Still, the Panthers love his potential.McCAFFREY’S RUNTireless running back Christian McCaffrey has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Panthers recently. He has more catches (53) than any player in the NFL since Week 6 and has already tied last year’s mark with 80 receptions.Over the last five weeks, McCaffrey has run for 440 yards and four touchdowns and caught 36 passes for 363 yards and four TDs. He needs 137 yards rushing and 337 receiving to become only the third running back to surpass 1,000 yards in both categories. The others are Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden smiled as soon as Matt McCrane’s kick sailed through the uprights. After nine years in the broadcast booth, three straight weeks of blown second-half leads and a roller-coaster game that featured three lead changes and 38 points after the start of the fourth quarter Briean Boddy-Calhoun Jersey , Gruden finally won his first game in 3,591 days.“It feels like my first win in 100 years,” he said. “It’s great to be back.”Derek Carr threw four TD passes and a game-tying 2-point conversion with 30 seconds left in regulation to set up McCrane’s 29-yard field goal in overtime that gave the Raiders a come-from-behind 45-42 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.McCrane missed a 50-yard field goal on the opening possession of overtime in his NFL debut and a 47-yarder earlier in the game before getting another chance when Carr drove the Raiders (1-3) back down the field again after a defensive stop for the game winner with 1:46 left in the period.“As soon as I saw it, it was an exciting feeling,” McCrane said. “I’ve been working hard. It’s something that I wanted as a kid, to play in the National Football League.”The field goal dealt the Browns (1-2-1) another tough loss as they blew a 14-point lead in the second half and then allowed to get the game-tying TD and 2-point conversion in the final seconds of regulation to spoil Baker Mayfield’s NFL starting debut .Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick, threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns to put Cleveland on position to win but also committed four turnovers, losing two fumbles and throwing two interceptions, including one that Gareon Conley returned 36 yards for a TD .The Browns were seeking their first back-to-back wins since November 2014 after snapping a 19-game winless streak by beating the Jets last week.“I’m tired of growing pains,” coach Hue Jackson said. “I think we can do those things better. Those things hadn’t reared their ugly head until now. We can do better. Baker can do better. Our offense can do better. Special teams can do better, defense can do better. So, we’ve got to play better.Carr threw for 437 yards, Marshawn Lynch ran for 130 yards for his most productive game in four years, and Amari Cooper (128 yards) and Jared Cook (110) each topped the 100-yard mark. The Browns broke out to a 28-14 lead midway through the third quarter only to fall behind 34-28 early in the fourth thanks in part to Mayfield losing two fumbles deep in his own territory to set up TD passes by Carr. But the Raiders squandered a fourth-quarter lead for the second straight week, falling behind 42-34 after Mayfield’s 59-yard pass to Antonio Callaway set up Carlos Hyde’s 1-yard run and rookie Nick Chubb ran 41 yards for his second long TD of the game.It looked as if that would decide the game when the Browns forced Carr into two incompletions from the 9 with under two minutes left to lead to a turnover on downs.Cleveland appeared to be in position to run out the clock when Hyde converted a first down, but a replay review determined he was down just short of the marker and the Browns punted.“That was huge,” Hyde said. “That was a chance to put the game away right there. Definitely. That was a game-changer right there.”Carr then engineered a 53-yard touchdown drive capped by a 7-yard pass to Jared Cook with 30 seconds to play. The Raiders still needed the 2-point conversion to tie it and they got it when Jordy Nelson came down with a fade despite physical coverage by ex-Raider TJ Carrie.Carr has 14 fourth-quarter comebacks but just two since his breakthrough season in 2016 when he did it seven times.“It did feel like the old times,” he said. “The way we did that, it helps our team going forward to know what it takes.”CHUBB’S RUNSChubb had just three carries on the day, but the first went for a 63-yard score in the second quarter and the last went for 41 yards and another TD. He finished with three carries for 105 yards.GO FOR 2Jackson went for a 2-point conversion twice in the first half. Mayfield’s pass to Callaway was incomplete on the first attempt before Duke Johnson ran in the second try to make it 17-7.QUICK WHISTLEThe Raiders were upset by a quick whistle that possibly cost Lynch a long TD run. Lynch ran left and linebacker Joe Schobert tried to tackle him but Lynch appeared to spin out of it without going to the ground. He kept running for what could have been a 75-yard TD but the play was blown dead. The Browns were hurt by a quick whistle in the fourth quarter when Carr was ruled in the grasp, negating a fumble recovery that might have resulted in a TD.INJURIESBrowns S Terrance Mitchell left the game with a broken arm in the first half. … Raiders RT Donald Penn left in the second half with a leg injury and LF Kelechi Osemele also left with an undisclosed injury.UP NEXTBrowns: Host Baltimore on Sunday.Raiders: Visit Chargers on Sunday.
We’re going to go around the league Jimmie Ward Jersey , looking at each division and seeing what vacancies could open up for Black Monday.d bail to fill one of the vacancies elsewhere. Today, we have the NFC East. We’re out of the AFC and going to the NFC. The NFC started their firings with the north and Green Bay showing Mike McCarthy the door, we’ll get to that later.Right now it’s the East, a division hard to pinpoint on what will happen. WashingtonWashington has all sorts of issues, most of them not a fault of head coach Jay Gruden. Once in the hunt and leading the division, the loss of quarterback Alex Smith not only deflated the team, but killed all their morale, especially when Smith’s post-ops have been nothing but trouble in infections. Washington also has been rotating quarterbacks, none of them Colin Kaepernick. They just got a shiny new linebacker too in Reuben Foster. An acquisition when combined with the Kaepernick refusal has led to a PR nightmare for the team. They just came off a huge blowout that was 40-0 at one point until Josh Johnson showed he was the man and started getting points on the board. Regardless of all the issues, Jay Gruden is signed through 2020. With two years left, it might be time for Washington to save face and deflect blame from Dan Snyder and the front office by firing Gruden. It’s a mistake, this season is not Gruden’s fault, especially when he lost his starting quarterback while ahead in the division. But he’s not handling himself well in press conferences and someone will have to go down. For those thinking team president Bruce Allen may be the scapegoat can get that out of your minds, he’s not going anywhere either. Who should get fired: Bruce Allen and Dan SnyderWho will get fired: Jay GrudenNew York GiantsPat Shurmur is having the worst year of his life for his first season as Giants head coach and while he may or may not be a good coach, Eli Manning is definitely the one holding the team back. Ben McAdoo has to be laughing his head off, because he’s the one who had the gall to bench Manning in 2017 and lost his job for it. Now, to be fair, it wasn’t what McAdoo did, but how he did it. The Giants will need a new quarterback and from there, other things can fall into play. Given that it’s Shurmur’s first season, don’t expect much turnover. Do expect, however, the Giants to orchestrating a trade with someone to get their quarterback of the future in 2019. General Manager Dave Gettleman is also going to get a pass with it being his first season as GM. Who should/will get fired: NobodyPhiladelphia EaglesLet’s be frank, the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Unless they won zero games the following year, there’s no way they would put this coaching staff under the microscope. That said, their season is a bit disappointing with them sitting at .500 as of this writing. The division is still up for grabs and they still have that Super Bowl win hanging over them. All is well here. Who should/will get fired: NobodyDallas CowboysThe Cowboys win the award for manic/depressive team of the year. Sometimes you think head coach Jason Garrett will get canned and then something comes out to prove otherwise. One thing to remember is while Jerry Jones is giving Garrett the votes of confidence in interviews, he’s done this several times before and whacked his coach before the season ends. I think some of us may remember the Wade Phillips firing fiasco years ago. Despite the trend, the Cowboys are in the lead of the NFC East right now and given that they just beat the Philadelphia Eagles to tighten their grip, they very well could be representing in the playoffs. Washington isn’t going anywhere and the Giants are an accident waiting to happen. Garret could still get canned, but it’s doubtful. The big question is how many of these season with playoff limps and non-appearances the Cowboys can take. There’s no consistency or a sign of a team that can beat the big boys, and they’ve had Garrett for how long? It should be time for a change, but if they make the playoffs, it’s not happening. Who should get fired: Jason GarrettWho will get fired: Nobody Opening comments:“Injuries; [WR] Pierre’s [Gar莽on] out, [S Jaquiski] Tartt’s out, [RB Matt] Breida’s out and [CB] K’Waun’s [Williams] questionable.” What was K’Waun’s injury?“Some knee issues.” Who’s kind of like the backup slot?“[DB] D.J. Reed [Jr.].” Is he also the backup free safety?“And possibly starting safety. Possibly starting nickel. He can play corner, too. I think he can play defensive lineman Dwight Clark Color Rush Jersey , also, so we’ll see.” No offense?“Maybe.” You guys have gone through so many different safety combinations this year. Is that a big factor in miscommunication breakdowns?“It’s a big factor anywhere. Not just safeties, any position. We don’t just play man-to-man every play. It’s seven guys usually looking at the quarterback together. The more continuity you can have, the better. It’s been tough with safety.” As far as that flanker spot, will WR Dante Pettis be kind of shifted in that direction this week?“He’s capable of playing all of them. Definitely don’t want to give all the answers to the test yet. But, we’ll have [WR Marquise Goodwin] Quise up, so we’ll have five this week, which helps. So, we’ve got a little bit more flexibility in what we can do.” Has he been solely X the last two games?“The last two games he’s been X the entire time, yeah.” Is RB Jeff Wilson Jr. going to start at running back then?“Yes. It’s the one secret I just let out.” Not many choices.“It just changed everything.” We’ve talked about the lack of continuity throughout the year. Obviously, it’s a clear factor. But, how do you balance realizing that without using it as an excuse?“You don’t use it as an excuse. You just try to do your best every week. When you get asked questions, you answer them and you tell the truth. But, I’m not out here campaigning telling stuff. That’s just a fact. It’s part of the NFL. We’re not the only team going through that. Lots of teams go through it and this isn’t the first time in my career I’ve been on a team going through it. So, it’s part of it.” How do you think your guys have handled dealing with all of that?“Which part?” Like, the different combinations in the secondary, communication and trying to rebound from--?“I think they’ve handled it as well as they can, just from a mental standpoint and effort standpoint and not making excuses and things like that. You know our record. We’d like to handle it better. You’d like the next guy up, you don’t miss a beat. You’d like nothing to change, but we have had inconsistency with the people in and I think that does lead to inconsistent play. So, I’d like it to be better, but I also understand it’s a little part of it.” Would you expect LB Pita Taumoepenu to be up on Sunday?“I think he’s got a good chance to.” How has he improved since he got here as a pass rusher?“I think he was a lot more raw last year. We know he’s got good get-off and he runs all day. Just learning more moves and things like that. You don’t need as many in college. You need more than a speed rush in the NFL, and he’s really worked on his craft in rushing the passer hard. [Pass rush specialist Chris Kiffin] Kiff’s done a lot with him in that area. Then, the run game, playing outside linebacker and getting better in his drops and things like that. Understanding football a little bit better. He’s come a long way.” How has his strength improved?“His strength?” Yeah.“I know he’s put on some weight. I haven’t checked his weight for a while. But, a year-and-a-half, two years almost now, spent a lot of time with [head strength & conditioning coach] Ray Wright. Pita works as hard as anybody, so he’s a very strong, powerful guy. Not a big guy, but as an outside linebacker, is a good size for him.” CB Richard Sherman was kind of weighing out his blueprint for the rest of his career yesterday, including free safety. He said maybe a few years down the road. But, do you see that as something that could be in his future? Could he be one of those guys?“He’s a good enough football player to. Has the mind. He’s competitive enough to do it. I haven’t looked that far down the road, so I haven’t been thinking about it much. It’s neat to hear, guys who have plans to play for a long time and things like that. That is a transition that does allow a lot of corners to play a little bit longer. You need to be the right type of guy and it does make sense with Sherm saying that because he does have those attributes.” Where does QB Nick Mullens stand on the pecking order of your quarterback situation behind QB Jimmy Garoppolo? Obviously, he’s starting. If the season ended now https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Aaron-Burbridge-Jersey , is he the favorite to be Jimmy’s backup going into next year or is that something that--?“No. If the season ended now, they’d both be going into the offseason competing. Definitely [QB] C.J. [Beathard] was our two and Nick was our three and Nick came in and got his opportunity because C.J. was hurt and he’s done good enough to keep that in all four of the games he’s played. We’ll see how that goes for these next four, but it was nothing against C.J. Nick came in and played well and there hasn’t been a reason to put C.J. back in yet, based off of Nick. So, they’re dead even to me. I know C.J. really wants another opportunity before this year ends. I can’t guarantee that for him. We’ll see how these games play out. But, I see them having a pretty good competition going into next year.” On Monday you said that everyone is being evaluated, including coaches. Do you anticipate making any staff changes?“I don’t know. That’s something that, I anticipate a lot of things in terms of I know we’re going to have some tough decisions to make, just personnel-wise, possibly staff-wise, just the whole building. But, I try not to make any decisions until the time comes. I want to let this all play out. I’ve just found out that you don’t want to jump to conclusions. You want to just sit back, relax and see what happens and really study it. You never want to make decisions just to make decisions. When you do have a bad year like we have, just record-wise, I know that’s what people want, they want drastic change, they want quick answers. The key though is to get it right and to make sure you do the best thing possible to put our team in the best chance possible to win. That’s what we’re going to do hard after this year.” It’s been three weeks since we asked you about defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and you’ve obviously been unwavering in your support of him. Has anything changed in that regard?“No. Saleh is a very, very good coach. He always has been, he still is and he’s not a finished product either, like we all aren’t. I think Saleh will continue to get better because he works at it, he’s very smart and I think he’s good right now.” How are Marquise’s spirits and how have his teammates supported him?“I think it was good. I think it was good just for Quise to be back in the building all week. We all know that he’s dealing with some things and hopefully for him it gave him the chance to just get away from some of that stuff and to come in and be around his teammates and just play football to get his mind off of some things. You guys could ask him, but I felt him get better as the week went and I’m just excited to have him back with our team.” Following up on that, do you think he’s ready from a mental and emotional standpoint?“Yeah, I do. We’ll see how much we throw at him. But, he had a good week of practice. He was here since Monday, he hasn’t missed one thing. I thought each day he seemed better and better.” LB Mark Nzeocha is the leading vote getter in the Pro Bowl. Aside from his wild popularity in Germany, what do you think the reasons are that he’s in the mix there and has he been an impact guy for you on special teams?“Mark’s done a real good job for us. He’s done a really good job on special teams. He started out this year as our starting SAM linebacker and then when we had all of our backers healthy, he went back to a prominent special teams role when [LB] Malcolm [Smith] was at the SAM. Now that Malcolm is playing inside, we’re back to using him on the outside backer. Last year he played inside backer for us. He took a huge step forward this year changing his position. We thought it was a much better spot for him. Mark runs and hits and usually if you run and hit, you’re a pretty good special teams player.” Do you have a top three all-time favorite Denver Broncos?“That’s not a very softball question. I will definitely offend somebody. Everyone knows [former Denver Broncos QB John] Elway was the man, that’s a little too obvious. My favorite was [former Denver Broncos RB] Terrell Davis. [Former NFL WR] Ed McCaffrey was my hero. That’s why I always wore his number and tried to be like him just for my own self and being a receiver. Terrell and Ed always stick out. You can throw Elway in, that’s fine.“I know, but it’s just so obvious. I’ll throw Elway in, yeah. He was definitely the best.”
PHILADELPHIA (AP) —stock tips to NFL player Mychal Kendricks has pleaded guilty to securities fraud.Damilare Sonoiki Frank Clark Color Rush Jersey , who also wrote for the television show “Black-ish” for a season, pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Sonoiki provided four separate non-public tips about companies to Kendricks, a former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker, in exchange for Eagles tickets Dion Jordan Color Rush Jersey , invitations to music video shoots and parties and about $10,000 in cash.Authorities say the tips netted about $1.2 million in illegal profits.Kendricks pleaded guilty earlier this month to insider training. He was released from the Cleveland Browns when the charges were filed and has since been signed on a week-to-week contract with the Seattle Seahawks.Sentencing for both Kendricks and Sonoiki are scheduled for January. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks will be without one of their three running backs Sunday after rookie Rashaad Penny was ruled out with a knee injury.Penny, linebacker K.J. Wright and safety Maurice Alexander were all listed as out Friday. Another trio of key players was listed as questionable for the game in San Francisco Tedric Thompson Color Rush Jersey , but wide receiver Doug Baldwin, defensive tackle Jarran Reed and safety Bradley McDougald are all expected to play, said coach Pete Carroll.“I’m healthy to go. I’m going to go. They’re planning for me to play,” said Baldwin Ethan Pocic Color Rush Jersey , who will face friend and former teammate Richard Sherman for the second time in three weeks.Baldwin missed Monday’s win over Minnesota with groin and hip issues. He also missed a large chunk of training camp due to a knee injury, two games in September with a separate knee injury and he has played through both groin and hip issues. Seattle’s passing game struggled against the Vikings without him. Russell Wilson threw for a career-low 72 yards and was 10 of 20 passing.Baldwin said the latest issue with his hip popped up the Friday before Seattle’s first game against the 49ers. He was still able to play two days later and had two catches, including a touchdown.“This was a combination of stuff so it was like, all right we’ve got to figure it out and get it handled. … I couldn’t go (against Minnesota) and we were doing things to try and get me healthy again Shaquill Griffin Color Rush Jersey ,” Baldwin said.Carroll said Penny would remain in Seattle to get treatment through the weekend. The team hopes to have a clearer picture of his situation when it begins prep for next week’s game against Kansas City. Penny made it through last Monday’s game against the Vikings but his knee was bothering him later that night.“He feels pretty good. He just couldn’t get going this week,” Carroll said. “The rest over the weekend and the stuff that they’re doing will probably show us something by Tuesday. By the time we get to practice on Wednesday we’ll have a better feel.”The Seahawks are also hopeful that Wright will be ready to play by next week. Wright will also remain in Seattle to receive treatment on his troublesome knee that has caused him to miss 10 games this season.
GREEN BAY Lance Kendricks Color Rush Jersey , Wis. (AP) — How fortunes have changed in less than two years for the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers.ing this season. The Packers have already fired head coach Mike McCarthy.Falcons owner Arthur Blank reaffirmed support for his coach, Dan Quinn, after a four-game losing streak dropped the team out of the playoff picture. The game between the Falcons (4-8) and Packers (4-7-1) on Sunday at Lambeau Field was once circled on the NFL calendar as a potential matchup between contenders jockeying for a home game in the playoffs.Instead, it’s turned into a matchup between disappointing teams each trying to avoid a losing season.“I think what you want to do when you go through a difficult stretch is you want to make sure you take the lessons first, and when you do that, there’s something that you have to gain,” Quinn said. “Sometimes you don’t like to admit it, but that’s where the learning takes place the most.”It sounds a lot like what the Packers are going through at Lambeau, where the future is clouded by uncertainty.Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin took over as interim head coach after McCarthy was fired following the stunning 20-17 loss last week to the lowly Arizona Cardinals.A coaching veteran with a dry sense of humor, Philbin has delivered simple messages at a time of upheaval.“I told the offense, we’ve got to block, we’ve got to throw and catch, we’ve got to run hard with the ball. That’s really ultimately what wins games,” Philbin said. “Schemes are important, but not as important as playing guys together and playing with great effort and playing fundamentally sound. That’s really the focus.”The Packers have lost three straight and five of six. They need lots of help to get into the postseason even if they can somehow win their last four games.“I think everybody’s kind of realizing that we’re all under the microscope even more. Who knows what the changes are going to be after the season,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “So I feel like the energy was good today. Unfortunately the urgency that you need early in the season, we kind of had out in practice today.”Other notes and things to watch:RODGERS RECORD WATCHAt least the game could be worth watching for the quarterback play. Rodgers’ 61.8 percent completion rate this year is his lowest since 2015 (60.7 percent) https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , though he has thrown just one interception all season. Rodgers has thrown a franchise-record 336 attempts without an interception, trailing only New England’s Tom Brady (358 in 2010-11) for longest such stretch in league history.THIRD-QUARTER BLUESOne of the Falcons’ goals for the week is to jump-start their abysmal third-quarter scoring. Atlanta has been outscored 71-34 in third quarters, including 6-0 in last week’s 26-16 loss to Baltimore. The Falcons ran only five plays and held the ball less than two minutes in the quarter. By contrast, the Falcons’ 115 second-quarter points and 107 fourth-quarter points rank among the top five in the league.CALLING PLAYSPhilbin, the former Dolphins head coach in his second stint as a Packers assistant, has extensive experience coaching and putting together offensive game plans. But the previous time that Philbin called plays was when he was a college assistant at Northeastern in 1995-96. He’ll assume those duties again on Sunday since McCarthy was the play-caller in Green Bay. Of course, the Packers also have a veteran at quarterback in Rodgers who is often at his best out of the pocket when a play breaks down.WELCOME BACKThe Falcons have lost eight players to injured reserve this season, including long snapper Josh Harris this week. They finally had a key starter return from IR last week when linebacker Deion Jones set a career high with 15 tackles and a sack against the Ravens. Jones missed 10 games after suffering a broken right foot in the opener against Philadelphia. Jones’ 15 tackles were the most by a Falcons player this season.RUN TIMEThe Falcons have the NFL’s worst rushing attack, averaging just 79 yards a game. They were held to 34 on the ground last week against Baltimore , a week after a season-low 26 against the Saints.“When we’re at our best, we’re running the football and we’re able to create play-action passes,” quarterback Matt Ryan said. This might be the week they get things going. Green Bay allowed a season-high 182 yards on the ground to the Cardinals last week, who have the league’s second-worst rushing offense. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — When Aaron Jones crossed the goal line early in the second quarter, capping a 75-yard drive that gave Green Bay a 14-7 lead at Minnesota, the Packers again put themselves in favorable position for a victory on the road against a winning team. That’s a formula coach Mike McCarthy’s backsliding bunch has yet to figure out this year.Unlike so many of his past teams with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, these Packers just keep on stumbling down the stretch. Now they’ll probably need a perfect finish to squeeze into the playoffs.Kirk Cousins passed for 342 yards and three touchdowns without a turnover for the Vikings, who overtook the depleted Packers for a 24-17 victory on Sunday .“We’ll see what we’re made of for the last five weeks Bryan Bulaga Jersey ,” Rodgers said. “Are we going to stick together through these tough times, or are we going to start splintering? I’d like to think that the leadership is in place that we can stick together through whatever happens, but these five weeks will show it.”The Packers went three and out on their first possession, only because Davante Adams accidentally stepped out of bounds before making what would’ve been a chain-moving catch on third down. Then Rodgers finished the second drive with a vintage back-shoulder touchdown throw to Adams , before Jones raced around left end on a crack toss sweep that Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said afterward was a perfect call for the defensive play he had dialed up.But the Packers went three-and-out the next time they had the ball and didn’t score again until a field goal with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter. Over their final seven possessions, they punted five times and had a turnover on downs when Jones was stopped on fourth-and-inches midway through the third quarter at their 44-yard line. On that final drive, Adams had what would’ve been a touchdown catch on third-and-1 at the 20 slip through his hands.“Our third down has been our black eye,” McCarthy said. The Packers (4-6-1) fell into 10th place in the NFC. They were beaten up, mentally and physically, by this five-game slog with losses on the road against the Rams (10-1), Patriots (8-3), Seahawks (6-5) and Vikings (6-4-1) when they were either tied or leading as late as the third quarter in each of those four games. The schedule softens, with four losing teams on the slate: home games against the Cardinals (2-9), Falcons (4-7) and Lions (4-7) and a trip to play the Jets (3-8) following a rematch with the NFC North-leading Bears (8-3) on the road. There’s a legitimate question, though, about whether the Packers have enough steam left to win out like they did in 2016 with six straight victories to win the division at 10-6 and reach the NFC championship game.“I knew we had a tough stretch. Four really tough places to play,” Rodgers said. “I didn’t think we’d go 1-4 on that stretch J'Mon Moore Color Rush Jersey , but that’s where we’re at. We’re here: 4-6-1. We have to win our last five, and even that might not be enough.”This will be the first time since Rodgers took over as the starter in 2008 that the Packers don’t reach double-digit wins in the regular season when Rodgers doesn’t miss any games to injuries. They were 7-9 in 2017 and 8-7-1 in 2013 when Rodgers broke his collarbone. They were 6-10 in 2008.The injuries are the most tangible reason why the Packers might not be able to recover to reach the playoffs this year. Already missing several starters, they saw left tackle David Bakhtiari, left guard Lane Taylor, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, wide receiver/kick returner Trevor Davis and safety Kentrell Brice all leave the game with injuries. The Packers, though, have been missing that mojo they’ve had so often in the Rodgers era all year long. This was their season low in points (14) and yards (254).“Sitting on the sideline, we kept asking ourselves why we’re so unlucky,” said Jones, who had 93 total yards on 20 touches. He added: “You can tell the guys in this locker room want it. We want it more than anyone else, and we’re right there each and every game, but it feels like it gets taken from us.”
